Detroit Prospects Face A Learning Curve

09/20/2021 at 12:58pm EDT

from Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now,

Fans, and the media to a certain extent, tend to add up the numbers when assessing the future. It’s easy to count the two spectacular goals Kirill Tyutyayev tallied in Detroit’s opening-night win over the Dallas Stars. It’s Simon’s job to detect and correct certain flaws in the Belarussian prospect’s game.

During his critique, he’s just as likely, if not more so, to tabulate the ill-advised back pass that Tyutyayev attempted during a Detroit power play in Sunday’s loss to Columbus. It created a turnover that led directly to a Blue Jackets’ shorthanded goal.

Every player is there to learn, to seek improvement.

“Obviously it’s a lot of older guys here than junior is,” assessed forward Cross Hanas, a 2020 second-round draft pick. “The older the people, the bigger the guys, the faster is it. It’s more physical, the more the ice shrinks. You gotta make quicker plays.”

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
