from Peter J Wallner of Mlive,
He left as the top scoring defenseman with seven goals and his 16 points are second to Mike Green’s 20 in 52 games. But he had just four points in the past 30 games with a team-worst minus-20 rating.
Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill wanted to see Cholowski’s defense match his offense, and the second-year pro agreed.
“I just have to play better in the D zone, get on the puck quicker and harder and use my butt a little more,” he said. “Keep moving on my gaps and handling plays earlier. Really, just the D zone - being stronger down there.”
Cholowski said he was informed of the decision at the morning skate before Thursday’s game. He was not in the arena for his bobblehead night.
Asked if he saw the move coming, Cholowski said, “Not really.
“I wasn’t really given any warning that it was going to happen or anything like that. Just have to be ready for when it comes, and it did.”
