David Perron Close To Signing With The Wings

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today signed left wing David Perron to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4.75 million.

Perron, 34, spent the 2021-22 season with the St. Louis Blues and ranked among the team leaders with 27 goals (T3rd), 30 assists (10th), 57 points (8th), 11 power play goals (1st), 26 power play points (1st), 48 penalty minutes (T2nd) and 177 shots (4th) in 67 games. The 6-foot-1, 202-pound winger also recorded 13 points (9-4-13) and 10 penalty minutes in 12 postseason contests as the Blues reached the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, falling to the eventual Stanley Cup-champion Colorado Avalanche in six games. Originally selected by the Blues in the first round (26th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Perron helped the franchise claim its first-ever Stanley Cup championship in 2019, contributing 16 points (9-7-16), a plus-four rating and 16 penalty minutes in 26 playoff games. He also reached the 2018 Stanley Cup Final as a member of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights, totaling nine points (1-8-9), a plus-one rating and 10 penalty minutes in 15 games.

The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native is a 15-year NHL veteran, including 11 seasons in three separate stints with the Blues from 2007-13, 2016-17 and 2018-22. In all, Perron has recorded 665 points (269-396-665), a plus-21 rating and 718 penalty minutes in 973 career games since 2007-08, in addition to 61 points (24-37-61), a plus-four rating and 84 penalty minutes in 104 postseason appearances. He has scored 20-or-more goals in six NHL seasons and eclipsed the 50-point mark six times. Prior to turning professional, Perron skated with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Lewiston MAINEiacs during the 2006-07 campaign, logging 83 points (39-44-83), a plus-37 rating and 75 penalty minutes in 70 games as the team clinched the Jean Rougeau Trophy as regular-season champions. Perron also recorded 28 points (12-16-28), a plus-six rating and 22 penalty minutes in 17 postseason games to guide Lewiston to the President’s Cup as QMJHL champions before chipping in three points (1-2-3) in four games at the 2007 Memorial Cup.
