The newest Detroit Red Wings player is a big forward with a smooth stride and a penchant for shooting the puck.
That’s a pretty good list of assets to a team that has struggled to score and won just four times their first 13 games. Brendan Perlini is penciled in to make his debut Friday at Carolina, and while expectations are muted as he adjusts to new surroundings, possibilities are intriguing.
“He’s got two things here,” coach Jeff Blashill said Thursday. “He’s got a clean slate, and he’s got opportunity. He has to make the most of those.”
Perlini, 23, is motivated to establish a foothold with an NHL team after being unable to do so at two prior stops.
