Bottom Line Makes Sense

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

The Red Wings like Hyman because he’s among the best at digging out pucks to create scoring chances. Hyman scored 15 goals in 43 games last season. He also has ties with Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin. They played together one season at the University of Michigan.

Hyman, 29, would like to stay with the Maple Leafs, and would take less to stay with them. But the Maple Leafs are salary cap challenged and might have difficulty fitting any kind of Hyman raise into their budget.

The Red Wings have ample cap space, but are a long way from being a contender. That makes it difficult to recruit top players. Until the Red Wings show they are competitive, top free agents are going to stay away from Detroit.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
