from Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet,
Our goal here is to get the juices flowing with some Horvat trade proposals, but also to use Sportsnet’s Jason Bukala to peel back the curtain a little bit and give an added layer of insight regarding what things could be at play in a potential Horvat move.
Bukala spent 15 years in front offices in Nashville and Florida and knows there’s often more than meets the eye when it comes to these potential megadeals. With that in mind, Bukala offered up four teams he believes are viable suitors for Horvat’s services should Vancouver — as more and more people expect — pull the trigger before the March 3 trade deadline and move their pending-UFA of a captain.
Detroit Red Wings get: C Bo Horvat and F Aidan McDonough
Vancouver Canucks get: G Sebastian Cossa, D Shai Buium, 2023 1st, 2023 2nd*
Detroit already has a very good centre who’s a pending-UFA this summer in Dylan Larkin; imagine if they could trade for Horvat and extend both. That would give the Wings a solid 1-2 down the middle with plenty of good hockey left for both players.
Shai Buium is a big defenceman the Wings snagged in the second round in 2021 who is now in his sophomore season with the University of Denver.
The 2023 second Detroit would ship out belongs to the St. Louis Blues.
Bukala’s Take: I’m not saying it’s a major consideration, but don’t kid yourself; Vancouver would prefer to send Horvat to the Eastern Conference, so it’s no coincidence the teams on this list fit that bill.
The Red Wings are eager to move their rebuild along and acquiring Horvat — who grew up just a couple hours up the highway in Southern Ontario — would keep things going in the right direction.

Below coach Lalonde gives an update today.
from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Here are some numbers and facts contributing to the Red Wings current losing streak:
Individual Struggles
Michael Rasmussen and Dominik Kubalik each only have one assist over the past six games. Kubalik is -5 during the slump and Rasmussen has been -4. Lucas Raymond is also -5 during the losing streak, while David Perron is -4.
Kubaliks lack of production has been particularly stressful because he helped carry the team in the early going on. The Czech forward had 10 points in one five game span earlier this season. He is still second on the team in scoring with 26 points. But hes not getting as many shots as he had earlier in the season.
Improved Competition
Five of the six teams to beat the Red Wings during this losing skid were playoff teams last season. The Ottawa Senators were the only non-playoff team in the group. And the Senators came into Detroit on a 7-2-1 surge.
Its fair to wonder if we had an exaggerated impression of the Red Wings competitive level because they played a weaker schedule over the first quarter of the schedule. Its not as if coach Derek Lalonde didnt admit that the teams underlying numbers show they werent as strong as they appeared.
It doesnt get any easier for the Red Wings. Two of their next three games are against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have won 11 playoff rounds over the past three seasons, plus the Pittsburgh Penguins who have made the playoffs for 16 consecutive seasons. A rematch with the Senators is sandwiched between those games.
Rising GAA
During the losing streak, the Red Wings have been outscored 23-10.
more
Cossa and Buium no I dont thinks so. Horvat would be great if the Wings didnt have Copp signed but the Wings also have prospects in the pipe line that can provide (maybe) what Horvat would be. Stay the course dont run ageound now. I dont have much respect for the writers this website.
I wouldn't trade Cossa and Buium straight up for that package, let alone adding a first and second. Ok, how about Pettersson and Quin Hughes for Ras and Zadina. Bonus: will throw in Jimmy Howard for the Vanc broadcast booth to boot. Makes about as much sense as what this so-called expert is proposing.
Just no.
I might take that for Horvat AND Hughes, but otherwise nope.
I am referring to Detroit Hockey Now. I think they just meant those two players (their draft placement added) not additional pics. Anyway. Still no.
Thats a ridiculous haul for a player obviously being shopped and whos on an expiring deal. What happens if both Horvat and Larkins agents really push for the highest end of comparable center contracts at the same time - crunch time between the trade deadline and UFA?
Would have to mean SY had already soured on Cossa. Even if Husso is a longer term answer in goal, there is no one else in the organization with much upside.
Buium might be expendable given the other LD prospects, but you dont add a prospect that good to a #1 prospect and 1st and 2nd round picks in one of the deepest drafts in a long time. That 1st could still be a pretty high pick. I dont know anything about the other included player but unless hes a legit tough top-six power forward, this proposed deal is already too silly for it to matter.
Let's start with the simple. No way no how do the Wings trade their first round pick without lottery protection. Second, they aren't about to give up that many higher end prospects and high picks for a player on an expiring deal.
