The score didn’t reflect how poorly the Detroit Red Wings played Sunday in one of their worst performances of the season.
Coach Jeff Blashill offered a blunt assessment of his team’s 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings at Little Caesars Arena.
“I thought we got out-competed, out-executed and outworked,” Blashill said. “If you do those three things you have no chance. I don’t think that’s happened very often.
“We’ve given lots of real good efforts, even some games where the score has been more lopsided than this. This ends up 4-2 but that doesn’t tell the story of the game. We couldn’t go tape-to-tape; we couldn’t get the puck out of our end and we couldn’t get the puck through the neutral zone. It’s hard to play hockey when you’re doing that.”
Blashill said he didn’t see this coming after two strong efforts in victories over Winnipeg and Montreal.
“It’s something that’s inexcusable,” he said.
