A2Y- Wings Played Well, But

01/22/2023 at 12:59am EST

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Lucas Raymond scored his 15th goal with 41.6 seconds remaining in regulation time, cutting the Flyers lead to 2-1. Raymond was right on the doorstep with two seconds left but goaltender Carter Hart, who was the star of the game, made a pad save in the crease.

"How that puck did not go in, not only did he (Hart) get a pad on it, he flexed his pad to keep it out, that's pretty impressive," Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. "His whole night, we got good traffic and the way he was seeing it, we generated some tips, but it was one of those nights.

"We ran into a world-class performance in net and we left a couple of plays out there."...

The Wings (19-18-8) lost their fourth out of five games, while Philadelphia (20-20-7) has won eight of its last 11 games.

The Wings returned from a three-game Western swing Friday but didn't look ragged or sluggish.

"It's tough travel, tough always to come back from the west coast and we came in and skated this morning and guys looked pretty tired," Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. "But we had a real strong effort and I was happy with the way we played.

"Doing it right all night, then two little breakdowns and they're in the back of our net. It hurts, it stings. We were right there."

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

“We certainly feel we played good enough to win tonight,” Larkin said. “The effort level is not the issue. It’s just when we’re on our game we need to capitalize, we need to make teams pay. We’re up 3-1 in Arizona and we don’t put it away. We got chances tonight and we don’t put it away. We need to start. That’s the maturing and the growing as a team. We need to find ways to put teams away.”

Lalonde said Hart was “amazing.”

“We had good traffic,” Lalonde said. “I thought the way he was seeing it. We generated some tips that were just going wide. One I had a perfect view in the second period. Point shot, we had a tip on it, it’s going right in and he finds a way to elevate his shoulder and get a piece of it. Just one of those nights when we ran into a world-class performance in net and we left a couple of plays out there.”...

The Flyers are adjusting to coach John Tortorella’s style and are 9-3 in their last 12 games. They are playing the hard-to-play against style that Lalonde also would like to see his team play consistently.

“Unfortunately, they were the first team to make a play in the third and we were the first team to make a slight mistake,” Lalonde said.

Larkin’s line, which included Raymond and Dominik Kubalik, was on the ice for both Philadelphia goals.

“We’re never gonna play a perfect game but we gotta play complete and pretty darn close to perfect,” Lalonde said. “We can’t leave plays out there and we left a couple out there tonight.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
