from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,
Florida scored two goals early in the first period and forced the Wings to play catch-up. The Wings never were able to rally all the way back.
"Easy offense (allowed) in a couple situations for them," said coach Derek Lalonde of what proved to be the Wings' downfall. "I really felt we had a good chance to tie that game up and, then probably our inability to finish with a couple of our chances in the second (period).
"It's frustrating but a reality of where we're at. We have to slot some guys, a couple of our defensemen, and it's tough, in an increased role which is a reality of where they're slotted right now."
Defenseman Olli Maatta was minus-four and partner Jordan Oesterle was minus-three, playing as the second pair, a prime example of the Wings having players above where they were earlier in the season.
from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
“It’s like these games, you got to find a way to inspire your teammates, inspire yourself,” Copp said after a 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers. “That can be hard. That’s our challenge. That’s the challenge for the older guys in the room to find that inspiration and for the younger guys it’s proving that you belong in the NHL. It’s a lot of guys we have that are fighting for spots going forward. You got to find that gear to push yourself.”
The compete level has been there for the Red Wings, even though they have lost 10 of their last 12.
“We have a certain standard we want to play by,” Copp said. “There’s going to be things that happened over the course of the game but there’s going to be some non-negotiables that we need to stick to. For the most part it was all right tonight. Turnovers cost us, especially in the first. But we have to find a way to play a little more inspired that we did tonight.”

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said Simon Edvinsson was the team’s “best D” in his team’s 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.
“He created some plays, he gapped, was hard,” Lalonde said. “Loved the play where we almost got the (tying goal). Him creating a play on the back door there. Some positive growth over his last game.”
That was the good news.
The bad news: Edvinsson was injured in the game. He left the game early in the third period with a lower body injury and then came back and finished the game. But he reported after the game that he was still having the issue.“I don’t know. He’s gonna get it looked at now,” Lalonde said. “I give him credit for coming back. He’s got some discomfort there. He’s back with the doctors and they’re doing a picture of it now. ”
The Red Wings play a road game against the St. Louis Blues Tuesday. Edvinsson is up from the Grand Rapids Griffins as an emergency replacement for defenseman Gustav Lindstrom. If Edvinsson isn’t healthy enough to play, the Red Wings have decisions to make.

Blah, blah, blah. Just shut up and win a game or two for once.
FIRE BLASHILL! Very clear this is and always was the coaches fault!

The kid has a lot more skill and "bite" to him than I thought. The pass he made right on the tape on Saturday from beside Husso's net to nearly the Avs blue line was really impressive. He's another young player who always seems to have a broader view of the ice than most players (like Erne, Veleno, etc.). And what's not to love about the way he took down and then stood up to Kachuckeehead? Fun stuff.
As I commented in last night's LB the Wings weren't outworked (the effort was there) but rather outplayed (being in the right place at the right time). There just isn't enough top end talent on the team and it shows.
