from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

He hasnt played since Nov. 5 when he broke a bone in his leg blocking a shot against the New York Islanders. It had to be surgically repaired.

Well see how it comes (along), Zadina said. I just want to come back and be 100% ready. I dont want to be 85% ready and then just be on the ice. I want to to be ready and can give the team 100%. Thats my goal. If I get there in a week, or 10 days, or two weeks, Im trying my best to get there as soon as possible. I just want to come back and be ready 100 percent.

Its not a conditioning issue.

Its a matter of the spot where I had the surgery, where I had the broken bone, Zadina said. The conditioning is fine. Im already there. Obviously its tough. Its probably not the same like I was in the summer. The biggest concern right now is the leg, where I had the injury....

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

With only one goal in his previous 15 games, Kubalik was enduring a frustrating slump, in sharp contrast to the beginning of the season.

Kubalik scored nine goals in the first 18 games and was universally being hailed as one of the shrewd free agent signings of the summer.

Kubalik's two goals tied him with David Perron with 12 goals, just behind Dylan Larkin's team-high 13.

"Sometimes it's just how it is," Kubalik said. "You just go through, I don't want to say holes, but everyone has them in the season. You go up and down. You're trying to be conscious to get those chances and be around the net and create something. But when they're not going in, you say positive and keep doing the right things....

"It's tough because again, not a lot of volume (shots, 34) but the stuff we gave up was of high quality, grade A's," Lalonde said. "He played well, he competed in the third again to give us a chance. It's a positive, the last two days for him."

Lalonde said Husso is day to day, and Husso's availability for the New Year's Eve game against Ottawa is uncertain....

The Wings had the option of on ice, or off, workouts Friday and was an opportunity to take a breath before the annual New Year's Eve game.

"It's a hard back to back," said Larkin, noting the come from behind 5-4 overtime victory in Pittsburgh was also a factor. "With the emotional win, and coming in (to Buffalo), we didn't really show up in the first or second (periods), and it's hard coming back off a break.

"We'll forget about this and going back home and playing at home, I expect a good effort."

and it's hard coming back off a break.

Funny. It wasn't hard for Buffalo coming back from a break, no practice and a major blizzard. Just sayin.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
