Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
It was an ugly, messy effort that somehow ended up a thing a beauty on the scoreboard as the Red Wings notched a 7-5 triumph against the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets came into Little Caesars Arena with a five-game winning streak and the Red Wings entered the game with a three-game losing streak.
Im not going to take away from the win, Lalonde said. Maybe its on me. They looked absolutely gassed. (Perhaps) it is a practice thing. Maybe its a credit to (the Jets). Maybe they are that good. Their record says they are.
Whatever the reason, this was an important win. The Red Wings seem to be at the crossroads between staying in the playoff race or heading toward another early first-round draft pick....
It never felt comfortable because of the way we were playing, Lalonde said. You could just feel we had no gas, we were slow, we were tired. We looked that. Mental mistakes, tired mistakes. You look at our five on five play, how good it was the other day and tonight was not that night. Hopefully a one-off. Well try some things in the morning. Its easy to correct some things with win.
