A2Y- Quick Recap - DRW/NYI

01/27/2023 at 9:33pm EST

Break time? Not for me. Even though the Wings have a nice break, the NHL continues although it is a light schedule leading up to the All-Star weekend.

So feel free to check in every so often for the latest news from the hockey world.

The Wings lost 2-0 to the New York Islanders tonight and now head for parts unknown.

The Islanders scored early in the second period to take a 1-0 lead and did the same in the third to make it 2-0.

I was at the game tonight. They announced a sellout crowd, but I don't think so. I got out of the garage in 3 minutes flat - when it takes 15-20 usually. Not many Red Wings fans - which surprised me - they usually travel well. But we see a lot of west coast fans who do the hockey tourism NJ/NYR/NYI games when their team travels thru.

From my vantage point - this was a snoozer. Red Wings played like a team that traveled for a back to back road games and our team did too - except they were not scheduled last night.

I felt the Nelson/Palmieri/Lee line was really going tonight. The team defense was good and Sorokin was not as busy as he often was in recent games - but made some key saves.

I will have to take a picture of my John Tonelli bobblehead - which was a giveaway night. Tomorrow is 2000's night (part of the 50thanniversary year - players from those teams will be honored and people encouraged to dress in that theme for the Vegas game)

I felt Hellberg played well enough to win.  But this performance was not impressive (no offense to DRW fans)   We just sucked less.    NYI only scored 2 goals for what seems like 10 in a row.   Again no power play goal in something like 50 attempts.   Actually got a third period goal tonight.

My NYI friends said in Canada - that the game dropped off TV in period 2?    Lucky you who got to miss it.  It was a no hitter!   Not physical for the most part - both teams looked gassed.

Mets owner Steve Cohen and his wife were in the crowd as well as some band named "The Hold Steady" which I had to text my daughter to find out who they were.  Some guy named Matt Frevola (a UFC fighter) was introduced.   Mets announcer on cable  - Todd Ziele was there too. We gotta get better celebrities!  :O

In closing - the ALL STAR break is needed for both teams.  They could use some R&R

I will be at the next DRW game on a Saturday in March - I recall its a noon start?

No offense taken. The Wings did a "no show". Cannot win if you do not show up to play. Most Red Wing fans want to be sellers at the TDL. The schedule gets more difficult after the All Star break; the only reprieve is we are closer to the TDL.

I watched a minute of this game while they were down 0-1 and decided to turn it off. They looked so slow and off.

Looked like the  LaYzerLonde Wings started vacation on Wednesday.

Looks like another disappointing season. New coach, new players, same results.

Although not officially eliminated, with this game I believe the Wings quest for the playoffs is at an end. The combination of things that would have to happen for them to sneak in is simply too long now. Time for management to focus on that trade deadline. Start thinking about what the roster might look like next fall. Ugh!
