The Athletic takes a look at the four major sports teams in Detroit and asked a few questions.

Whats the biggest frustration from the fan base of the team you cover?

Bultman: It changes by the day. Some days, the fan bases frustration is that the Red Wings arent good enough to be in the playoffs. Some days, its that theyre not bad enough to have a realistic chance at Connor Bedard. I wonder if its just the frustration of not knowing which extreme should be their focus. The fan bases reaction is definitely not as black-and-white as its been in past seasons. The emotional swings are part of being a fan, though. Otherwise, youre just a customer.

For the record, both perspectives are valid. Red Wings fans have put up with some rough seasons and are ready for some wins. Theyre also worried that the team will have a defined ceiling if they focus on turning the corner now instead of trying to win a draft lottery.

Most of the recent Stanley Cup Champions have a first- or second-overall pick playing a big role for them, though there are some contenders who dont. At the same time, theres no way for a team to guarantee itself a top-two pick (as the Red Wings have seen these last few years), and losing hurts doubly without that bounce. I can empathize with the conflicting feelings there.

I like the idea of Perron as the net front role on the PP. Keep it out of his hands as much as possible. I think his decision making on the PP has been a big problem for a while.

from Nicholas J. Cotsonika of NHL.com,

Robby Fabbri had every reason to get off to a slow start. He was coming back from not his first, not his second, but his third ACL surgery, and he was doing it midseason with a new coaching staff.

But the 26-year-old forward has scored three goals in four games since his return, giving the Detroit Red Wings a much-needed offensive boost.

The Red Wings have defeated top-10 teams in each of the past two games -- 7-5 against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, 4-1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday -- entering their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; BSDET, BSOH, ESPN+, SN NOW).

"I'm just [focusing on] getting back to my game, getting my legs going and all that, and goals are coming, so I'm not going to complain about that," Fabbri said. "But getting them in wins definitely feels a lot better."

Fabbri has overcome a lot.

I actually did not realize Fabbri is only 26. In my mind I thought he was 34:)

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
