1st game back from Allstar break and its not a Bally's Game URGGHHHHH!!! Bull$h!t!
And it’s Edmonton, arguably one of the more interesting teams to watch.
from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,
General manager Steve Yzerman has yet to comment on the matter, but coach Derek Lalonde did so on Monday.
"Of late, he’s been scoring a lot," Lalonde said. "He also went almost a month with one goal in that league. So you are constantly evaluating and seeing where things are at."
WHAT TO WATCH:Why these three storylines matter most for Red Wings coming out of bye week
The AHL is on its All-Star break this week, while the Wings are coming out of the NHL one. They resume their season Tuesday when they host the Edmonton Oilers, the first of 34 games left on the slate.
It just so happens the Wings are fully healthy for the first time this season, and that a young player — Jonatan Berggren — is the reason they waived veteran Adam Erne over the weekend. That puts a squeeze on recalling anybody else.
"We’re healthy, so we’re battling for roster spots," Lalonde said. "Adam went through waivers the other day. A lot goes into it. Like, Berggren put a wrench in a lot of plans. We probably didn’t expect him to be here right now. And that’s a roster spot. You could probably argue Elmer (Söderblom) should be up here the way he has been scoring, and playing of late.
"The luxury of having some depth is a good thing right now."
more, not marked as paid...
from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,
Detroit Red Wings fans and the media are not the only people curious about why Dylan Larkin has not reached agreement on a new contract.
The world’s best hockey players want to know as well. Larkin found that out when he participated in the NHL All-Star Weekend in South Florida.
“Everyone knows what’s going on around the league,” Larkin said. “Guys are asking why it hasn’t got done yet, stuff like that.”...
Larkin, 26, can be an unrestricted free agent next summer. Another center Bo Horvat, a center of comparable age and ability, signed over the weekend with the New York Islanders for an $8.5 million yearly average over eight seasons.
“Yeah I saw it,” Larkin said. “I got the chance to talk to him about it. . It’s just again, the personal side of it, it’s a life-changing thing. He’s moving across the country to a different country. West Coast to East Coast. New team. Yeah, I saw what he signed for and good for him. He is having a great year. He’s put the puck in the net, he’s just produced. With all the attention and everything that’s been going on, the way he’s produced is very impressive.”...
“I know the fans are wondering,” Larkin said. “But you gotta block it out. You think about it but you have to block it out. You gotta play. I felt the summer was worse, because there’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t go out and play and work as hard as possible. Just nice to be able to play games and get in the routine.”

That's a very...optimistic spin on it, though Lalonde has shown he's an optimist.
Personally, I think we're in this roster mess because we have a load of bottom talent.
