The Detroit Red Wings have played well enough to win many times this season only to leave the ice with nothing to show for it.
On Friday, they banked a well-deserved two points....
They showed no rust following a nine-day break (All-Star break, bye week), carrying over momentum from a 3-2 victory at Edmonton on Jan. 22.
They beat a talented rival in front of thousands of their own cheering fans dressed in blue and white at Little Caesars Arena.
“That might have been the loudest we’ve heard the building all year,” goaltender Jimmy Howard said. “It was a fun atmosphere to play in and I think coming off such a long break, when you get that fan interaction, it gives you that extra boost.”...
“I’ve said this lots for the last number of games, I thought we’re a good team to a real good team,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “I thought we’ve outplayed our opponents, we haven’t gotten the results for it. From a process standpoint, if you keep it up, you’re going to get results I think our guys on a consistent basis have worked.”
The Red Wings are 4-2 in their past six games.
