I had actually just posted this on the other thread (about Hronek).

Regarding Hronek:
You put him back in the lineup after a 1-6 loss and it’s like saying, “Oops…turns out we really need you even when you aren’t playing the way we expect you to play.”

I’m not surprised he was kept out a second game.  I think he’ll be back in for tonight’s game.

I think he’ll be back in for tonight’s game.

He is back only because Lindstrom is injured.
I am confused about goaltending choices. Greiss was superb and got benched against Calgary. Now Ned had his best game of the season against Chicago and now benched. I am proponent of just playing the goalie who is hot at the moment.

I think we are just rolling with odd games Ned, even games Greiss philosophy.

I hate seeing Leddy and Seider split up. They both have been fantastic and I understand the desire to spread that skill around. But unfortunately all splitting up that pair has done is drag them both down when saddled with significantly less skill. Hronek and DK have actually worked reasonably well together, even with each of their flaws. Hopefully the shuffled pairs time is minimized.

This season’s success depends on on the health of both Leddy and Seider. The team has decent forward depth now to survive some injuries. But without the top pair, there’s very few clean zone exits and very little offense. If they miss any significant time, we’ll see the same thing we’ve seen the past several years where any moderately aggressive forecheck just pins the Wings in their own zone every shift.

It’s definitely interesting.  Interesting hroneks play goes down, seider comes in and excels, hronek gets benched until injury then put back in with seiders partner….

Pure conjecture, but paired with blash’s comments about keeping likes and dislikes to ourselves, I wonder if it shook out something like hronek has competition for the first time since he’s been on the team.  Views himself as top D man and maybe suggested seider is looking better because he has Leddy and he’s got DDK?  No matter what, you don’t bench a top 4 d man for multiple games cause his play was underpar 5 games into the season.  I’m not buying there wasn’t an issue to precipitate this little side story, just play.  Maybe questioning coach deployment makes the most sense?  Bored sitting in a hotel room just spit balling, who really knows but them.

So Hronek is now listed on the 2nd pair and Seider is moved to the top pair.
Interesting to see if Seider gets more minutes than Hronek tonight.  I bet he does.

Who would have thought it would only take till game 7 before Seider became our #1D.

I figured it would take at least 10 games, maybe even 20, nope game 7.

But 2 > 53….. for now.

That’s a pretty bad sign for Givani….

Smith was lolligagging it back on defense on the second Calgary goal. Blash loves his defensive players.

Unless a forward like Givani is just persistently
lax coming back, don’t you make the point to him,
rather than take him out vs. a team like Washington?
I realize Caps have last change. But Smith is the only guy who
can step in to really defend a teammate without risking injury,
and get Wilson off the ice for five mins if he’s running around.
This is a team with Raymond and Seider in the lineup facing Wilson
for the first time.
