Lovely. A one game suspension for possibly being injured again, by another dirty hit.

Thanks Gary. ASS!

That ‘“shove” by Joseph on Larkin was a cross-check.

Tii bad the NHL does have an email to hammer them with complaints!

In other news:

Blashill said they rate their players on a 1 to 5 scale after every game and rarely does a player get a 5 but the coaching staff gave Bertuzzi a 5 across the board for his all-around play last night. #RedWings— Ansar Khan (@AnsarKhanMLive) October 15, 2021

Dylan Larkin should be suspended for a game, sorry but he should.

That said, Joseph should be suspended 5 games for checking him from behind, Larkin was clearly established with his body position, and Joseph took another stride before slamming him in the boards face first.

I can understand how a ref can miss the initial call, but how “player’s safety” can review that video, and call the retaliation, but not the hit is beyond me.

Second period. But otherwise, I agree—it’s absolute trash that they’re going to suspend Larkin for defending himself, and not even address the multiple occurrences of dirty behavior by Tampa last night.

Fun fact? On the anniversary of Fight Night at The Joe, the Wings play the Lightning in LCA. Hope the boys bring their A games for that one.

I’d have zero problem with Larkin being suspended for a game if Joseph also got a suspension.

Why the NHLPA allows this to go on is beyond me. From what I’ve seen, the league will only really change when a player is killed or disabled as a result of one of these hits.

Agree with every one of your points.

Fully earned.

But not even looking at the crosscheck/boarding is business as usual for the farce that is the department of “player safety.”

And the NHLPA is just as guilty. Part of their job is protecting players health and careers. They should be working as hard as anyone to get this crap out of the game. But the only thing they defend is the short term earnings of a guy losing a paycheck for a couple of games on suspension.

Thirded or fourthed: totally get why they can’t let
a player take a swing after the play.

But tacitly approving everything Joseph and Palat etc did
- again - is insult to injury.

And I agree with Paul - maybe it’s not a classic two-handed
crosscheck like you see away from the boards, but it’s clear
Joseph is choosing to hold his stick laterally and use it as the
main, direct source of contact to hit Larkin’s neck and force his Larkin’s head
into the boards.

Glad to see the league’s crackdown on crosschecks last all of zero games.

I have no idea how the players in the locker room are feeling or what they’re saying
away from microphones. I know they’re about trying to improve as a team and win hockey games. That pros deal with crap like this and move on to the next game.
But this needs to be dealt with particularly the next time the Wings have last change.
And in general, the young guys need to see it won’t be them next - or there’ll be an answer if it is. And opponents need to know the Benn, Joseph, Palat stuff is going to be met with a different response.

Certain opponents over the last several years have appeared, at times, to play physically against the Wings. If that continues this season, the Wings might alter their lineup.

“I guess if it goes on, we have to get people in here to make sure we’re protecting them,” Blashill said

Let’s hope this is really going to happen

Joseph is lucky Larking dropped his stick before punching him, or he would probably have gotten the old BC Twohander in the lips. He and his team better watch their step the rest of the season, and remember who has more to lose right now.
