The Slumping Detroit Red Wings

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

The Red Wings have lost four in a row and six of their last seven. They have been shutout an NHL-leading five times and only scored five goals in their last four games. Detroit is now seven points out of a wild card spot and the Boston Bruins, the team holding the last wild card position, has four games in hand.

Takeaways from the loss:

1. Scoring Troubles Mount
The Detroit Red Wings now rank 25th in scoring at 2.65 goals per game. They were 0-for-5 on the power play to fall under 14% this season in power play efficiency. They rank 31st out of 32 teams.  Lucas Raymond continues to look impressive but hasn’t scored a goal in 14 games.

Filip Zadina’s goal drought is 13 games. Robby Fabbri has one goal in his past nine games. Michael Rasmussen is making strides as a checking center, but has one goal in his past 10 games. Detroit defensemen have only scored nine goals this season.

‘I thought there was certainly moments when the energy was there, the effort was there,” Coach Jeff Blashill said. “We gotta find a way to score. It’s 1-0, we get a power play, we had some looks, we don’t score. And then they come down and score. I think that power play generated opportunities. We just gotta find a way to score. Now if you keep generating them, you’ll score eventually and that’s what we need.”

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Thursday’s game was the Wings’ fourth in six nights, and they traveled back Wednesday from California.

Some tired legs were expected. But Blashill felt the Wings skated well under the circumstances.

"There were moments in the third we didn't have the legs we needed, but up until that point we certainly had enough legs," Blashill said. "We had some looks (offensive chances) for sure. Obviously Connor is a real good goalie, but we had some real looks. We have to stay with it and keep working and find a way to be a little better for 60 minutes."

Filip Zadina’s goal drought is 13 games

The offense isn’t there. The defense isn’t there. The hockey sense isn’t there.

Too many blown coverages. Too many puck battles lost. Too many giveaways. Weak forecheck. Zero effort on backcheck. Zadina is well on his way to playing his way off this team.

Sit him out 5 games. Have him watch, and really study. Light a fire under his ass. Get him to practice hard. If hes still mailing it in then sit him some more. When he gets back into the lineup throw him on the first line with Larks and Raymond. Have him play with the high end guys. He has ZERO chemistry with Fabs/Suter.

Earlier in the season he had a few games where he was forechecking hard and cycling the puck well but seems like ever since he got dummied by Garland in the corner against VAN he’s just lost it. Whether it’s mental or what he’s gotta figure it out soon
