The NHL Draft Lottery Starts At 6:30pm ET Tonight

from Mike G. Morreals of NHL.com,

The 2022 NHL Draft Lottery will set the order for the first 16 picks of the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft when it is held at NHL Network studios in Secaucus, New Jersey, on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+, SN, SN NOW, TVAS).

The 2022 draft is scheduled to be held at Bell Centre in Montreal. The first round will be held July 7, with rounds 2-7 on July 8.

There will be two lottery drawings, one for the No. 1 pick and one for the No. 2 pick. Once the top two picks have been established, clubs will be slotted in the order of their finish in the regular-season standings.

Additionally, teams only can move up 10 selections if it wins one of the lottery draws, a change announced by the NHL on March 23, 2021. Only the top 11 teams in lottery are eligible to receive the No. 1 selection in the 2022 draft.

My guess is the Flyers win the lottery.

If they’re drawing for the #1 & #2 spots, and teams can only move up 10 spots, why the hell do the 13-16th place teams have odds to win?

Man, if only we didn’t win that one game, we could have won the lottery!

Devils went from 5 to 1 in 2017, 3 to 1 in 2019, now 5 to 2 in 2022.

Hmm.  Kind of a ho-hum draft at 8th overall.  I wonder if we trade down.

Once game would have the Wings drafting at 7th. So yeah it did matter.

If my info is correct, since 2016, Wings have still lost the most draft spots due to bad lottery luck (-8)

Our only consolation: get the best player where we’re picking picking.

Dylan Mercer looks like one of NJ’s better recent picks
and he was picked in the teens.

To see a bad team reliably move up multiple spots in
recent years is annoying. They can stay bad and we’ll remind
them of the lottery help they squandered.

I’m guessing Columbus didn’t move up either.
If any team has claim to worse lottery luck, it’s them.

Are you sure on Columbus?

Here is the table I found.

Starts in 2016, Missing 21 and 22 data.

2021: Seattle +1, Anaheim -1
2022: Arizona, Philly, Seattle -1, NJ +3

And to think that last June, Montreal was playing in the Stanley cup finals.

I was just going to say that TreKronor. First the Rangers win the lottery while playing in the playoffs. Now Montreal gets first pick a year removed from being in the SCF.
But not the end of the world. Lafreniere was supposed to be the next Crosby, but at this point Raymond is not much worse although things can change in the coming years. This year I believe only Wright is considered the top prospect and no sure bets between 2 and 10.

I went through some mock drafts and with the 8th pick the names mentioned are Gauthier, Kemmell,  Savoie,
