That’s Not A Wall Lucas Raymond Has Hit

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

The Detroit Red Wings might describe what Lucas Raymond has experienced the past six weeks not as hitting the rookie wall but more like a soft barrier.

Raymond has gone 14 games without a goal dating back to Dec. 1, following a hot start to his NHL career. But the 19-year-old winger is contributing in other ways. He has eight assists during that stretch and coach Jeff Blashill hasn’t seen a decline in his defensive play or work ethic.

“He’s done a good job of making plays. He’s been on the puck. I haven’t seen a drop-off in his play at all,” Blashill said earlier this week. “He’s had chances in multiple games in a row. They just didn’t go in. And that’s the way it is. This is a hard league to score all the time.

“I think he’s been a consistently good player defensively. I think he’s a guy who goes out and does the right things to win a shift. Ultimately that’s what you’re looking for. If every player goes on the ice and they win their shift on a consistent basis -- meaning you gain territory, you play in the O-zone more, you create more chances than you give up -- you’re going to win a ton as a hockey team. He’s done those things. He’s still continuing to contribute on the scoresheet and off the scoresheet. Ultimately, the goals will come.”

Notice not only the skating from Berrgren which was elite here, but the placement of the shot.  He indicates he is going short side on the goalie and goes far side.  Great goal.  Raymond does this as well.  It is subtle but really effective.
