Abel to Yzerman

Quick Recap- DRW/NYI

The Wings were up 2-1 after 20 minutes while the Islanders are still searching to find their game.

I will admit I switched to a secondary TV for the second period while watching a certain college football game on the primary TV.

The Islanders tied the game midway in period two but the Wings made it 3-2 less than three minutes later.

In the third, NYI scored their 3rd power play goal of the game with about 7 1/2 minutes left.

The teams head to OT tied 3-3 and Mo Seider ends it, Wings win 4-3.

Detroit goals are below.

Wasn’t I writing about Givani Smith the other day?  smile

From an Isles perspective - this was the best game they played in about 3 weeks.  Compared to the Pens game and the San Jose game - when the team was gassed in the second and third ( due to the virus and due to the AHL team playing) this was great.  Save for Cizikas - we have the 8 or 9 players from protocol back.

The loss of two guys who would have won that OT for us ( Brock Nelson and Pulock) are injured -and injuries are part of the game.  that’s just the way it goes -  ALL TEAMS have injuries… but how we all wish the virus would just disappear.  I went on Thursday and while it was a same result ( 1 point won in an OT loss)  this was heads and tails a better effort.  Sorokin had a bad game IMHO he was particularly bad on the OT goal and the fluke goal from behind the net.  Against San Jose - he was the next Ken Dryden/Bill Smith.  He is a fabulous goalie - just not so much tonight.

I was impressed by Detroit’s play tonight in the way they blocked shots and passing attempts.  Some very talented players on the team and up and coming.  Nick Leddy did a very nice interview in between on the Isles broadcast.  He is sorely missed.  Be patient with this team.  I don’t see them sustaining this pace all year - but - if you don’t have tickets to the Wings now - buy em now - they will be a playoff team very soon and perhaps this year….you never know!

WTF did Oliver Wahlstrom go after that guy who stood up Beauvillier?  What a waste - he might have had three goals tonight if he wasn’t sitting for nearly half the game - we play Detroit two more times - plenty of time to repay that guy if he was worth it.  I cannot stand that fights have to take place after clean hits.  Now if he hit Barzal or someone hit say Dylan Larkin - I can understand that.  Trotz is frustrating at times - like the Caps fans always told me - in that he can’t always give lineup spots to Wahlstrom and Bellows because of defense.  But while he has not been producing - I can’t see Kyle Palmieri continuing with his 2.2 % shooting percentage much longer.  He will break out as will Parise - who is playing well.

Gotta tip the cap to the Wings tonight and see you in about 10 days

Gagne looks like he’s taken Smith under his wing a bit.
That’s not a bad fourth line in terms of mix of skills and roles.

Seider just has so much sense and confidence to go with his skill,
size, and skating. He’s not afraid to score big goals or make plays.

Strange situation for the Isles but they could be a low seed
qualifying at the end of the season whom no one wants to play
in the first round of the playoffs. All that playoff experience, physicality,
depth, two goalies, intense home crowd…

It’s been a long time since the wings had a dman who could rip one timers from the face off dot. Incredible.
