Quick Recap- Detroit Red Wings/Winnipeg Jets

A goal in the first period by Winnipeg, a goal in the second period by Winnipeg and a goal in the third period by Winnipeg was more than enough for the Jets to win 3-0.

The Wings actually had a 5 on 3 late in the third period and a pulled goalie made it a 6 on 3.  Chances yes, goals no.

Buffalo is in town Saturday at 7pm to face the Wings.

I’m sure the tankers are happy, but hey they want to watch this kind of hockey the rest of the way.  Ticket buyers can get 50% back if the Wings just mail it in like they did tonight.

They’ve regressed back to boring, bland, bad and barely watchable.

I know it was a long time ago in the way back machine, but this is what we expected to see when Vrana’s shoulder surgery was announced. Boring defense first and offense limited hockey, competitive playing that style against most, getting cleaned up by the league’s offensive powerhouses.

Fast forward a few months, Ned, Seider and Raymond played out of their freaking minds, and have now leveled off, still IMO playing very very well for 1st year players in this league, but clearly feeling the tax of the NHL grind, and the focus teams have placed on them.

On the positive side, Ned, IMO, is still playing high level tending, the team in front of him is just not scoring. Hronek is also looking very good, much better than his play to start the season.

On the negative size, Zadina obviously, he’s playing himself off this team, its in his own head clearly, he’s in a tough spot, getting out of your own head is not easy for a young head.

Rasmussen has take no steps forward, and the production has leveled out to expectations for both Erne and Namestov who were outperforming expections last year (erne) and this year (Nameistov)

Terrible awareness on Hronek’s part on the second goal that seemed to deflate the whole team. The defense has been making too many stupid decisions and bad pinches lately. Houda needs to get them back on track.

Lots of hockey crammed into short amounts of time. Lots of travel. Slumps like this were to be expected

The score should’ve been 7-0 if it wasn’t for Ned

Luckily (I hope) we have Buffalo up next. Win the first one takes away some pressure, and win the second one and we’re on a winning streak!

It’s not even boring defense, it’s Blashill puts two D who can’t play defense together (Leddy and Hronek) and ties Seider down with a boat anchor.

Leddy needs to be flipped at the trade deadline and throw in DDK to get rid of him.

DDK is Errorson 2.0

Leddy was sheltered because of NYI team play and other defensive D-men.

Also, Suter, Fabbri and Z are at best 3rd line players. We have no 2nd line and our current 3rd line is really a 4th line.

So our 4th line is really a 5th line.

Once again, to many one shot and done for the wings with poor shot selection on top of it in the O zone.
I think this team is to worried about getting back in position on the defensive end than being on their toes trying to own the offensive zone. Their puck retrieval, board battles and forechecking has been poorly executed in all their loses. Which is crap when they dominated the faceoff circle and had more shots on goal.
Same issues we have seen for years with different levels of talent through those years. That’s the frustrating part.

You are really upset and criticizing Yzerman, but in the name of Blashill, unless of course, Blashill is allowed to use players from other teams?

I think we’re getting what we thought we would get outside of what is mentioned above, and that is Zadina and Ram not making steps forward, rather back, and that might be the downfall of Blashill.

Otherwise, I see progress in reshaping the roster and in Yzerman’s draft pics.

Squarely on the backs of Larkin and Fabri. Though Seider has been trying to get some shots through of late, that are not great either, unsure if that’s Tanguay strategy or development strategy? He hasn’t learned that yet, maybe they want him to so he does to the determent of this season, but benefiting future?

Murray
Why Fabbri?

On the PP, i am not sure putting Raymond on the bumper is the best usage since you lose some of his play making abilities. I would rather see Fabbri in that position.

The big thing about getting Leddy was he’d be Seider’s mentor. Maybe he is. But hes not paired with seider, he’s not good defensively, and is 3rd option for defenseman on the PP.

3 years ago he’d be blocking an unnamed kid from the lineup.

Fabri is a live by/die by guy, he takes a lot of terrible chances, sometimes they go in, but most times they do not.  I don’t fault him for the effort, this team needs the effort, he just often plows forward when a gap closes, and it would be better to retain possession and reset

Unsure Fabri would work at the bumper but it might force him not to do what I just mentioned, worth a looksee.

Agreed, I don’t want Leddy anywhere near Seider on that top unit. In the room, ok, but he can’t handle top line defense, not that DDK can, but Leddy can’t handle 2nd let alone 1st.

Good point Murray. I tend to agree he rushes in like young bull sometimes.

I did not like the Leddy signing from.day one for many reasons people have mentioned.

With all this, it’s still a game of inches. Copp scores two goals with some crazy accurate shots and Larkin misses 2 100% chances. 2:0 instead of 0:2 is obviously a different game. We would have played with confidence and Jets will be pressing the issue. Score on at least one of the PP in the first 2 periods, also a different game.
