I dreaded this game, as I have seen the Red Wings blow these kind over the years.

Talk about playing down to your opponents

I believe it was an okay game they managed to win in OT. The Wings, if they want to grow, will have to learn to close out these types of games in regulation. By the way, Lucas is a stud. Vrana who? ( just kidding)

Hard to believe that if Varana hadn’t been injured, Raymond would probably be in G.R.
The rookies are playing well (including Ned) as are Bert & The Captain. However, the wings are essentially a one line team…

Wings have been missing a legit goal scorer for years. Raymond scored a great one.

They skate hard. They’re just wildly inefficient, mostly because they all watch the puck so much as Mick alluded to during the game. Do your job, he said. Don’t get caught watching the puck, do your job and trust your linemates to do theirs.
I’ve noticed the wings do this a lot. One of the most notable things watching seider and Raymond play are they’re always looking around assessing. They’re almost never standing their watching the puck while their man is slipping open. It helps hockey smarts, watching the whole play and not the puck. You start to figure out how they plan to screw you and start making reads.
We’ve got a team of energizer bunnies. Just move your feet and see what happens vs exploiting weaknesses in the other team. I can’t tell you how often I’ve seen an opponent go back to the bench and break down some tendency they just saw to their linemates. We really don’t read the play well as hard as we work. If they just focused on their jobs it’d take a lot of the guesswork out of it.
If they were a band they’d just be noise.

All that said, our top line is doing fantastic. Absolutely great for where we are.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. OK I woke up, saw the two Wings quick goals but the best was the OT winner by Raymond. I am with Mickey, I know he can’t say what was running through his mind but I can. They should all be lined up on the boards and and a hockey stick smashed on their asses. Most of them. Talk about playing down to your opponents, Buffalo was falling asleep all night except Tokaski, they won last night, they were saying, take it. Yawnnnn, I think Tokaski threw the OT because he was the only one not taking the night off. Game should have been 7=0, these free points to opponents may come back to bite you at the end of the year.
