Put...the...pipe...DOWN

Helene St. James, most likely out of boredom, has created a firestorm. The boards are buzzing. Rumor sites are blasting “Forsberg to Detroit?” headlines…all due to this sentence:

General manager Ken Holland has told Forsberg’s agent, Don Baizley, that the Wings are interested in adding the Swedish superstar to their lineup.

My opinion on this matter is well known by now: he’s not coming here. Not now, not ever. The Wing lineup is sturdy enough. The Cap money is in the bank, collecting interest for March. And there is little doubt in my simple mind that whatever Holland told Baizley (and when) comes with a caveat from Bandwagon Central. And that caveat is this: “whatever the Wings offer, we raise them a dollar.”

But that’s just my opinion. In the interests of offering you as many views…as misguided and pathetic as they may be when they are in contrast to mine…I present to you Floppa-mania.

The Scoreboard Message Board (Wings)

All in all this is all really intriguing. We certainly need a first line center, and a healthy Forsberg is as good as it gets, but that’s a BIG if with the health aspect.

Plus it’s unsure at this point if he feels it’s okay to play with the Wings, he mentioned when he went to nashville that it would have been a bit strange for him to play with the Wings after all the history there. He doesn’t want to be regarded as a “traitor” with the Avs especially, he still feels close to that club and their fans.

No, we don’t need a first-line center. We have one. No, wait…we have two. Forsberg, in the Hell at 32 degree fantasy of a BS scenario, would center the second line. In reality, he’ll be on the Dive first or second line rubbing tummies with either of his pals Joey or Milan.

Of course they want him. He fits right in a soft euro,he is 40 something, injury prone, and over the hill. Bring him on in Kenny.

Ahhh, yes. The “soft euro” argument. Yeah, tool bag. He’d join our core of soft Euro’s like Holmstrom and Zetterberg. Notoriously soft. Lilja: horribly soft. Kronwall? Injury prone, of course. But “soft”? Christ, even Datsyuk isn’t soft. Even Samuelsson, that frigging streaky bastard, isn’t soft. “Euro soft” is the stupidest stereotype this league has. Nice job Don.

Rumor has it that the news of Peter Forsberg’s successful foot operation now has several clubs around the league interested in signing the 34-year old. Supposably, the Detroit Red Wings is one of them. Now I’m not sure if Ken Holland has enough room under his salary cap to fit Forsberg, who I’m sure won’t take the first offer that comes along, but it sure tickles my mind to see him in playing in red this coming season.

Yep. It tickles my mind too buddy. Tickles my mind and my tummy. Tickles me to the point that I just may, you know, vomit.

The Calgary Puck forum has a post on it too. Not surprisingly, the provincial fans are taking a common sense approach: he’ll be back in Denver by Christmas.

Those are just three links out of at least two dozen more, all of them referencing St. James’ blog entry. All because, “Holland has told Forsberg’s agent, Don Baizley, that the Wings are interested in adding the Swedish superstar to their lineup.”

I’m not even mentioning the frigging hundreds of Swedish hockey blogs all screaming about a Floppa/Lidstrom tandem for ‘07-‘08; which brings up another point. Nick Lidstrom’s on record saying he’s not close with Forsberg. As a matter of fact, NONE of the Wing Swedes are. Hell, they may hate his ass for all we know.

Not…gonna…happen.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
