Stevie is really targeting his specific guys this year.  Again, I don’t think they like the depth of this draft class.

With all these D picks of the last 3 yrs, I fully expect Steve to wheel-n-deal some of them before the season starts into forwards to round out the lineup

I think it was the 128 pick.

I think they just want it over but I would think that gems might be hiding out there.

Thanks, Shai Buium had pretty good rankings, reading many have him pegged as a potential sleeper so risk/reward pick.  Tall with good can skate good hockey sense are top 3 attributes on Stevie’s back end prospects for sure.

Shai Buium, LHD, Sioux City-USHL: Buium’s stock elevated sharply as the season went on especially late in his USHL season.

“He’s a long, rangy defender, with a very good stick and high IQ. His strength and skating are issues but he has big upside.”

On Shai Buium’s player profile info at MyNHLDraft.com.

And this from EliteProspects.com…
His hands and feet work independently, each transmitting different information to opponents. With changes of pace, fakes shots, and constant eye deception, turns exits into inside-lane entries, creates passing lanes, and hits teammates through heavy pressure. Give-and-goes with a space-filling mentality allows him to create scoring chances for himself or his teammates. -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide

12 picks in 1 hour and 5 minutes…the first round of the NFL draft does this—-not the 2nd round of the NHL draft.

Come on this will drag out all day.

Yes, but there were wide opinions of him:

“I think he was just one of those guys who was more physically advanced than other players at an early age, I never believed in the hype. He’s a worker with some skill, but I don’t see a ton of hockey sense in his game.”

some see him as a 3rd line centre

I like these three picks. I know some of the other sites people are upset that the Wings did not go offense especially a Center, but I think I get the trajectory the Wings are going for.

Defenseman and goalies are usually on a slower track to the NHL. They take more time to season. This may not always be the case but usually it is.

Simon Edvinsson, Seider, Shai Buium and a few other of the young D that are already in the pipeline and with a Free Agent D or two, this future Defense might be like the Berlin Wall. Then you add Cossa and Nedeljkovic to the mix, ut oh Spanky. This is a BIG IF all these kids hit at least 80% of their potential.

Once the back end is stabilized, it frees up the Forwards some to be more creative and allow more risks to be taken to score some goals. We saw this at times with the additions of Staal, Merrill and Stetcher last season.

I would suspect the Wings next draft will focus on Centers and Wingers. But I think this team will be good enough not to get any lower pick than have in the draft the last few seasons unless the ping pong balls (that no one gets to see) give the wings a fortuitous bounce.

I am guessing it’s the lack of data on the prospects and people making calls to maybe trade and indecision on who to pick but worried they might miss and opportunity.
