How About Sam Reinhart Wearing The Winged Wheel?

from Luke Fox of Sportsnet,

Eichel hogs the headlines in Buffalo, and rightly so.

But Sam Reinhart’s trade value may never be higher, and this summer seems ripe for a trade.

Kevyn Adams should take advantage of Reinhart’s abnormally high 19.2 shooting percentage.

The 25-year-old Reinhart ($5.2 million cap hit), who is coming off his most productive campaign (25 goals and 40 points in 54 games), could take the Sabres to arbitration, get a one-year raise and walk as a UFA in 2022.

In need of top-six forwards, the Devils, Canucks, Blue Jackets, Kings and Red Wings are among the teams who could benefit from Reinhart’s offence.

Reinhart’s faceoff work and two-way game are improving, but he’s still a guy who starts 60 per cent of his shifts in the O-zone.

I recall at least 1 of the 19 banging the drum for Reinhart.

Perhaps this is the time to pull the trigger?

Buying high and hoping for continued growth? I haven’t watched him enough to know so if the deal is there maybe.

I would rather the Wings build through the draft however.

I just looked at some articles about him that set out his statistics.  Reinhart drives possession even without Eichel, but he doesn’t finish as well—he’s more of a playmaker who score opportunistic goals.

IMHO that’s not the skillset to overpay for as the guy comes off luck-driven a career high in goals at age 25.

I am not sure why Buggalo would trade Reinhart if they are moving Eichel. But then again, it’s Buggalo.

I like his game. It’s not perfect but he is steady. He has average 20 goals and 50pts a season. His CF% has been in the high 50’s since joining the league. That is pretty damn amazing on such a shitty team. Only if he was a true center.

But let’s say he fits the Yzerplan. Who would you give up to get him?

He pretty much came out and said he was done with never playing in the playoffs and these endless rebuilds. Maybe that was an emotional reaction soon after the season.

I don’t know…good player and an ok salary and age but like the article and
Poohbah said: he’s coming off an almost 20% shooting percentage and they hope to sell high.

Do we really need to trade precious assets to get another winger given we may be about to draft a younger cheaper one with perhaps at least as much upside in a couple weeks? The harder positions to fill will likely be center and left D. Hopefully some rare lottery luck will help the following draft or two. I guess I don’t rule out SY finding a way to fleece Buffalo if he really likes Reinhart.

But it seems like buying too high on the wrong priority.

Eventually you have to get way from signing the Gagners and Ryan’s of the hockey world and invest in some solid youth you may not pull in during the draft.  Obviously those signings did not work as planned (draft pick wise).

I am not sure the Wings are quite there yet but I do believe they are getting close.  We will see in a few weeks on how Stevie responds.

As stated by other posters, the Red Wings don’t seem to be at the stage of making this kind of move during their rebuild. confused
