it breaks my heart to write that due a series of reductions to staff over the years, including now, i am told to report to the metro desk beginning the first week of february.

i worked there from 2000 to 2009, before beginning to cover #RedWings

it has been a great joy.

i had always hoped to expand my role.

now, it is eliminated.

i will particularly miss talking to the players and coaches, interacting with the fans and the different styles of sports writing.

i intend to continue to live tweet many wings games, from tv, and to blog.

Not many 'newspaper' guys respond to tweets, but Gregg does so drop him a note or leave a comment here. He will see it.

Personally I enjoyed his work and he will be missed.
