Game Day Preview: Canucks at Wings

Detroit returns home tonite following a mildly successful trip way West that started last week at GM Place with a win and ended at Rexall with a shootout loss. Sandwiched in between was the beat down at the hands of Calgary.
Nik Kronwall, who we foolishly thought had recovered from a groin injury, will sit. Tomas Holmstrom is expected to start for the first time in more than a week. Chris Osgood (fractured wrist) is out until Christmas. Rory Fitzpatrick is out for the Canucks.
Vancouver’s recent success has brought the Canucks to .500, third place in the Northwest and 8th in the Western Conference.
The Canucks are sitting with 21 points in 21 games, which was average last century but doesn’t cut it in today’s era of “the loser point” for overtime and shootout defeats.
Coach Alain Vigneault’s skaters are better defensively, far worse offensively and work consistently harder than the 2005-06 edition led by Marc Crawford.
They are a one-line team with a one-goalie system and a bunch of guys who can’t score.
Luongo, no surprise, is expected to start tonite while Canuck backup Dan Sabourin will face Bubba tomorrow night at The Gay. Thanks for nothing Vancouver.
The Wings sit in second, two points behind Bubba and 6th in the conference.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
