Fan Proposed Trades

from Max Bultman of The Atletic,

Usually, most of the proposals included in the mailbag are lopsided — some hilariously so. That’s part of the fun, and this version is no exception. But every time, there are two or three ideas that really make you think, even if they’re still not likely to come to fruition. That’s true this year, too.

So, without further ado, the 2021 offseason “Who says no?” mailbag.

Detroit trades Bertuzzi to Toronto for Alex Kerfoot and Travis Dermott

Because Bertuzzi’s name has been connected with the Leafs, many fans’ proposals revolved around Toronto. Kerfoot and Dermott are both good players in their current roles, but they’re not the kinds of pieces that are going to entice the Red Wings to move a 26-year-old top-six winger, even as an unsigned RFA. Detroit says no.

Detroit trades Bertuzzi to Toronto for Rasmus Sandin and a second-round pick

The future-based return in this proposal is more in line with the Red Wings’ direction. Sandin is a good young defenseman who hasn’t yet been an NHL full-timer but might become one right away if he stepped into the Red Wings’ left side. He’s also played on the power play in Toronto, which is something the Red Wings need organizationally. In that sense, you can see the logic in the abstract.

more ($$$) Bertuzzi proposals plus other names...

While getting Sandin would be worth it I think… trading him to Toronto would be tough to swallow, especially if he ends up being part of the final puzzle that gets them there, I really don’t want to see them win.

Colorado could be an itneresting partner… especially if they move on from Kadri.  They’ve got some good prospects so getting one of them for Bert, would definitely be intriguing if they were willing.

If TyBert gets traded, I’d want Sam Reinhart for him.  Straight up.

I’m being facetious, but there is nothing I could want from Tronna Ample Laffs that would interest me…even Mathews.

SYF, is that because you don’t want to trade with the leafs, because the leafs are loaded with talent that would be great to add.

The Leafs are loaded with reporters that oversell players to stir controversy, create tension, and get clicks.

I’m not saying they aren’t good players, but Sandin has 1 goal in 37 games and you’d think he is the next Salming. There is no reason to believe he would be any better than Choloski in the Wings system.

SYF I’d do the Bert for Reinhart trade as well

Well if true, that nixes trying to sign Reinhart.  Okay, next.

There is a reason why when the Habs played the Laffs in just these past playoffs, I intentionally muted the broadcast so I can see for myself what the hype is all about regarding the Laffs’ four $10 million players.  I wasn’t impressed; they aren’t finishers.  They coast on leads which they end up choking because they’re not coached to play playoff shut down hockey.  Maybe it’s a coaching thing, but then, that worries me because maybe they’re not coachable.  I just don’t like what I see in the Ample Laffs lineup that has me all giddy that I want any of them on the Wings.

I know our history with them:  the 1993 fiasco, notwithstanding, but we were able to get a few guys from that team to help us win the Cup.  Most noticeable is Larry “Hot Dogs!” Murphy, Bob Rouse, and Jamie Macoun.  Those guys I watched on the old CBC Channel 9 broadcasts and wished they were on more competitive teams.  So when the Wings landed them, I was thrilled…esp. Bob Rouse and Jamie Macoun.  Those guys competed.

The Laffs’ current lineup look a lot like the Dives:  figure skaters with great strides and speed and no heart.  No thank you.  They could benefit from a change in markets, but that is entirely up to Dubas and Shanahan.

If that’s true, between Danault (a leftie) and Glendenning (a rightie - assuming he resigns), the Wings would be a beast when it comes to defensive zone faceoffs at home.

But what’s the Little Ceasar’s connection?

Multiple reports saying highly unlikey Danault returns to MTL.

Hearing Danault is going to Detroit, which also ties into a Little Ceasers endorsment.

If this is true, and if DET is able to convince Hyman to sign, then this would greatly improve the defensive aspect of the team. Even if they cant get Hyman.

Danault is an advanced stats darling and I remember one of the spittin chiclets episodes with MacKinnon and him saying that Danault is the hardest to play against in the league. Getting him would be HUGE
