Q & A With Craig Conroy
10/25/05 at 06:11 PM ET | Comments (0)
This week's offensive player of the week answers a few questions in a conference call interview. from NHL.com,
Q. Andy Murray has the reputation of a details-oriented coach. Is that a good type of coach to have in the new NHL, where so much emphasis is on special teams and power play and I assume quite a bit of instruction? CRAIG CONROY: I think so, because it pretty much maps everything out for you. Everything is just, you know, black and white and he takes whatever the players think, too. He's always asking questions, what we do to get better and things like that. For the most part he tries to just keep it very simple.

Devils Clearing Cap Room
10/25/05 at 10:51 AM ET | Comments (0)
from the NY Post (reg. req.),
Lou Lamoriello has a little salary cap room if he decides to strengthen his .500 Devils. By noon today, the Devils' president will have 836G more cap space to use now or save against the day he must find $4.18 million in cap room to activate Patrik Elias. Lamoriello yesterday waived enforcer Krzysztof Oliwa, who will be assigned to Albany if he clears the other 29 teams. "I understand the game has changed, that Lou was forced to make a business decision in an effort to minimize the team's salary cap issues," said Oliwa, who said he returned to New Jersey to be near his 9-year-old daughter. "However, I would have signed elsewhere in July of '04 if I thought my position on the team was unstable. I had opportunities to play in Minnesota, Montreal and Calgary and passed them up. I am extremely disappointed."update 3:50pm, Oliwa has cleared waivers, 29 teams passed on him.

Erik Cole is a wanted man, but he won't be going anywhere for the time being. Sources say the Senators talked to the Carolina Hurricanes about a deal for the speedy winger in the off-season, but there haven't been any discussions lately and it doesn't sound like he'll be moving.
