Henrik Zetterberg had a memorable and outstanding NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings.
Will it be good enough to immediately land Zetterberg a spot in the Hall of Fame?
Zetterberg, in his first year of eligibility, will find out Monday afternoon, as the Hockey Hall of Fame reveals its newest inductees at 3 p.m.
Zetterberg led the Wings to the 2008 Stanley Cup, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the postseason Most Valuable Player.
Henrik Zetterberg lifts the Stanley Cup after the Red Wings defeated the Penguins in 2008.
Zetterberg finished with 337 goals, 623 assists and 960 points (all fifth-most in organization history) over 15 seasons in 1,082 games with the Wings. Zetterberg is one of 30 players in the Triple Gold Club — winners of a Stanley Cup, men's world championship and Olympic gold medal (both of his with Team Sweden).
You can watch the announcements today on the NHL Network or TSN.

Not going to make it in his first year of eligibility. Honestly I wonder if/when he does make it. Heart and soul player who carried this team so hard he broke his back, but I don’t know that it’ll get him in the hall.

Oh too bad Hank. The limit of 4 players per year seems arbitrary, they could have had 4 Swedes voted in the same year.

Hank had several outstanding cream of the crop years, but many were not. He gave everything he had his last years in Detroit, inhibited by a painful back. Playing with a very sucky team that was limited in NHL talent didn’t help his HOF selection chances either.

I think he’ll get in eventually. You could make a pretty good argument that Zetterberg was the straw that stirred the drink during the Red Wings heyday in the early 2000’s.

Tough in this year with the others eligible and a limit of 4. Glad for Alfredsson, he is a class guy.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
