via Daniella Bruce tweets,

Danny DeKeyser said this group of guys is just ready to play. A lot of new faces and they’ll have find their chemistry, but they are ready to play for real.

Marc Staal said he hasn’t been here very long but he smiled and said “it feels like I’ve been here forever.” He’s honored to wear an “A”

Staal said he thinks he may have been more excited for Mo Seider and Lucas Raymond than they were this morning. Says he thinks they might be trying to keep calm before the storm.

Jeff Blashill said they’re really happy with their leadership group, but thinks there are a lot of guys that will step up and lead regardless of wearing a letter or not.

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press on the two players wearing the ‘A’.

“I have discussions with Steve Yzerman about a lot of things,” Blashill said Thursday hours before the season opener against Tampa Bay. “He’s got a wealth of experience and I love to get his insight and opinion. It’s critically important in leadership that you get that insight and opinion. That’s always been my management style. Then I make the decision I think is best.”

DeKeyser, 31, and Staal, 34, join a leadership letter alliance that has changed considerably over the past year. Dylan Larkin was named captain in January, and former alternates Frans Nielsen and Luke Glendening departed the organization over the summer; Justin Abdelkader was bought out in the prior offseason.

“We have a bunch of guys in the locker room that are going to be part of our leadership group,” Blashill said. “Danny and Marc are very worthy of it. Both guys that have been around the league a long time. Marc wore a letter in New York. One of the things we wanted when we brought him back was his leadership. Does an excellent job of I would say being serious but keeping it loose at the same time.

“Danny has been a really good Red Wing a long time. His work ethic was exemplified by the work he put in to come back from a major back surgery. He’s led by example and has really good leadership quality.”

Good for him. That’s going to be a tough roster to stick with, but it’ll be interesting to see how he does in another org.

In former Wings news, I did see Svechnikov in the lineup
for Winnipeg, though he played the fewest minutes.
One shot on goal and even +/-
So a did what they needed with contracts and waivers and then signed him.

Seattle’s picks seemed a little more scattershot than Vegas’s.
Vegas of course both benefited from not only very favorable
expansion draft rules but GMs who hadn’t dealt with it - most sort
of overthought it and went too far trying to protect one guy, often
losing both picks and another player who turned out better.
So live and learn. But I didn’t see as much deal making or maybe simply as many
good players available to draft. Cholowski is going to be a fringe player looks like.
A bunch of teams had to pass on him in waivers for the Caps to claim him.
Nick Jensen is still entrenched in their D corps.

Perlini was 4th line last night for the Oilers, they also had Bouchard on the 3rd pair. At least thats what Daily Faceoff told me.

cap friendly’s depth chart does a really good job of tracking line combos.

The biggest pressure is on Ned tonight, he will be tested early and often. Hopefully preseason misfortunes are in the rear mirror

Cholowski’s CF% for his very short career is 51 on very shitty redwings teams with a semi-rookie coach at the helm. That CF% is higher than any current Redwings defenseman.

His career is a wonder at this point. I wish him the best.

I assume Cholowski was very sheltered in terms of starts
and usage.

But yeah, if he can put it together (was getting positive reviews
about his competitiveness from Simon in GR) and play a bit more
committed, physical defensive game while seizing opportunities
when they’re there offensively, he could still be a player.
Maybe a fairly strong Caps team will help him and he can learn
from a guy like Carlson.

Bouchard played over 20 mins last night!
If he can carry a bigger load it takes a lot of pressure
off of Keith to be a top-four guy in mins and as an offensive driver.
Looked like Nurse and Smith had monster games.
And kind of rooting for the Oilers to take the next step.

Cholowski’s CF% for his very short career is 51 on very shitty redwings teams…

Cholowski’s CF% for the 16 games he played in DET last year was a 42.51%, which was 26th on the roster.  He was 46.48% in the previous year playing 36 games, which was 14th on the team but with 65% OZ starts.  This is not what one wants from a non-scoring defenseman.  He wasn’t a good player for the Red Wings and one can’t argue very well he doesn’t belong on this team.

Oops, I meant one can’t argue very well he does belong on this team.
