In case you want to know what Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News thinks about the Wings…

Pressure is on: D Moritz Seider — From the perspective Wings’ fans have anticipated Seider’s debut for two years and he’s been a star in every league he’s played in. How good of an NHL rookie can Seider be?

Rising star: LW Lucas Raymond — If not Seider, then Raymond, who looked unstoppable at times during the exhibition season.

The skinny: The Wings will be better, with the acquisitions of C Pius Suter, D Nick Leddy, G Alex Nedeljkovic leading the way. But this roster still isn’t good enough to contend for the playoffs.

the rest (paid) of the Atlantic Division plus the Central…

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

“We just made that decision that that is the best thing for us,” coach Jeff Blashill said after Monday’s practice at Little Caesars Arena. “I wish Bobby a ton of luck going forward. I think he’s a great, great person, a real good player, but that’s (the decision) we made.”

Ryan had two goals and two assists in six games.

The decision reflects how well rookie Lucas Raymond has played. The 2020 first-round pick came to camp and impressed with how he fit into the NHL lineup, earning a spot next to Dylan Larkin.

“It at times was portrayed as two guys fighting for one job,” Blashill said. “That was not necessarily the case. But Lucas’ game, and other guys how they played, factored into it for sure. Lucas had a real good first part of camp.”

Lucas had a real good first part of camp.

Correction: ” Lucas had a great camp when I gave him actual line mates and didn’t saddle him and everyone else with boat anchors. Even when we were playing people who never were going to be on the team, he did okay. Hopefully I get to keep my job next year. Said Blashill”

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Bobby Ryan, who was in camp on a professional tryout, was released, likely creating a spot for rookie forward Lucas Raymond.

Bobby Ryan of the Red Wings scores during a preseason game against the Blackhawks.
Coach Jeff Blashill said the team will evaluate up until the 5 p.m. deadline to make final determinations.

Michael Rasmussen, Givani Smith and Adam Erne are all battling injuries. Whether any of them go on the injured list or are ready to play Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning will be factors….

Raymond appears to have made the team, but because of the other players being injured and their status unknown, he could still be sent down to Grand Rapids on Monday and be recalled later in the week.

Raymond was skating on the top line during Monday’s practice with Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi.

Joe Veleno also practiced Monday, but unless multiple injuries force Wings forwards out of the lineup, Veleno could be on the odd man out.

Right on, I don’t get these sports writers, whose side are they on anyway?  They are a bunch of party poopers!  Let’s celebrate our 23 man roster and congratulate them !  Comments like, not enough to make the playoffs pisses me off.  Brand new season, everyones equal, tell the boys our goal is first to make the playoffs and finish as high as we can.  Those people who are hoping for a tank now for a good draft choice are not true fans.

Agreed, it’s lame to use “fans” as a proxy for media heaping
pressure on Seider. With “star in every league he’s played in”
pressure to replicate that as a young rookie in the NHL.

I think we have realistic expectations. And partly that’s a reflection of
confidence in how good he can eventually be. But he’s playing likely high up
in the lineup on a still rebuilding team against the fastest, smartest, most skilled,
and often strongest, most athletically outstanding players in the world.
He’s going to make mistakes and take his lumps. Playing likely top-four D
at his age is tough. Nick Leddy is a good NHL defenseman with some real strengths,
but he’s not a Norris contender. We’re glad Mo is here and playing. But it’s just the beginning!

Sorry to see Bobby Ryan go in the personal sense and a little surprised,
given some positive play from him and the injuries. But it’s exciting SY et al
trust the young players. With Ryan is lack of speed and being injury prone at his age. He’s not really a guy who helps a lot if playing a bottom line role. And I doubt he tried out so he could yo-yo between GR and Detroit. He can hold his head high: he looked pretty good in the preseason. If this is it, he can go out saying: I could still play the game.

Noticed Svechnikov wasn’t signed by Winnipeg is spite of an underwhelming bottom few forwards in their group. Maybe it’s similar: the game is so fast now, that if your skating isn’t up to speed and you have been injured a lot, you either help more than the top nine guys offensively, or you need to be a plus checker and penalty killer.
Still hope he gets a chance somewhere else but this might be it, unless he can really find his game and confidence and up his skating abroad.
