Videos- After A Road Win In Boston

First up we have a game recap then below are the extended game highlights, Alex Nedeljkovic then Dylan Larkin and Jeff Blashill in one video.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Playing a patient and disciplined road game, and getting continued top-notch goaltending from Alex Nedeljkovic, who tied a career-high with 41 saves, the Wings went into Boston and defeated the Bruins, 2-1....

s good as Nedeljkovic was again, coach Jeff Blashill felt it was an impressive team victory.

"We played good defensively and we gave up shots, but we didn't give up a whole lot of chances," Blashill said. "When we did, he (Nedeljkovic) did a good job and that's the type of game that can really help goalies push their save percentages high because it's a decent amount of shots but decent amount from the outside.

"For me, this would be more of a team defense success than just one player. Certainly Alex did a good job and against St. Louis he stole us a game, but that wasn't the case (Tuesday). We played real good defensively, and it allows you to go on the road and quell momentum like we've talked about."

Boston had won 11 of the previous 12 games between the teams at TD Garden, so this was a notable victory.

"It's a tough building to play in, it's a momentum building," forward Dylan Larkin said. "When you take penalties and they go on the power play, they move the puck around well and it's hard, but we did a great job of staying disciplined early and we played a great road game and got great goaltending."

from Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now,

Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashilll was on the verge of tears as he spoke about the high school shooting on Tuesday in Oxford, Michigan.

Three students were killed and eight others injured when another student randomly opened fire at Oxford High School, which is situated about 35 miles north of Detroit.

“My prayers to the families that were affected today in Oxford,” Blashill said. “It’s as terrible, terrible thing.”

While speaking, Blashill stopped to compose himself a couple of times, overcome by emotion.

“Nothing I say can certainly do anything to help those that suffered the tragedy, that lost their lives,” Blashill said. “My heart goes out to certainly everybody involved, everybody at the school, the community.”

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin echoed the sentiments of his coach, describing the shooting as an unpspeakable tragedy.

Also from Duff,

Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill simply describes smart, responsible defensive hockey as winning hockey. It certainly created a winning formula on Wednesday at a place where many a Detroit nightmare has unfolded – Boston’s TD Garden.

Marc Staal’s third-period goal provided the difference in a 2-1 over the Boston Bruins. It was Detroit’s second road victory at Boston since 2014.

The victory was also the 3,000th in franchise history. Detroit’s first win was a 1-0 shutout of the Chicago Blackhawks on November 24, 1926.

Five takeaways from this historic triumph.

Good teams are able to successfuly close out these types of low-scoring, tight road contests. Blashill allowed that there was a time when he didn’t feel his team would’ve displayed the backbone and fortitude to close out this style of victory. And that time wasn’t all that long ago.

“I would even say a week ago I don’t think we played as mature as we did tonight, to be honest with you,” Blashill said.

The Bruins lead the NHL with 36.8 shots on goal per game but the Red Wings set a tone by limiting Boston to eight first-period shots.

“From a mindset, from a defensive standpoint, with the exception of a little bit in the second period when we left the puck in our zone when we should’ve got it out, I thought we did a much better job of playing good defensively, of managing the puck at our line, of getting it in at their line and overall being pretty disciplined,” Blashill said.

Man, awood tells a story with his extended highlights.  They’re more than just cool goals and great saves.  He posts amazing little details that don’t show up in regular highlights.
