We have (or should) a very good group of wingers, Vrana, Fabbri, Bert, Zadina, Erne (unless last year was a big fluke). Not a bad top 3 lines worth, and doesn’t include guys like Raymond, Berggren, or Smith. We don’t have a superstar center, tho we have 4 decent-to-quite-good ones, if Veleno continues to improve. D-boss really missed Bert last year, and his stats suffered. Plus he was hurt and probably pressing as first-year captain.

D should be a little better right out of the gate, and get steadily better as the year goes on. Hopefully Mo makes the big club out of camp (not just bkz I want him on the big club, but bkz I want him to be good enough to be on the big club).

Goaltending should be better than league average, if Ned is anything like his Calder nom season last year. The bad news is, it’s probably the strongest part of the team.

Agree.  It shouldn’t be too good to the point where the defense is slacking in coverage even more and they’re just relying on goaltending to win games.  That’s not cool.

This analysis toward the end kind of amounts to
an implicit criticism of the last few number one picks prior to
Yzerman taking over.

Of course his own picks are “to be determined” though
Seider is exciting and Raymond has near-term potential.

Seems like most of us would be comfortable if
Rasmussen and Veleno became solid third line
players - on a winning team.

Beyond Edvinsson, there’s a lot of depth in 2-4th round
defensive prospects. If a couple really hit, it would help enormously.

There’s no doubt this team needs as high a lottery pick as possible
next summer (higher via luck than lack of progress). And I wouldn’t
consider it the end of the world if the Wings got one more in 2023
before beginning to crack the playoffs again. Whether it’s drafting a star center
or assets for a young veteran, this team might be two drafts away, unless they really luck out and can draft a superstar.

If y’all got 75 minutes to spare right now, the ever amazing Youtuber, awood40, has updated his OT GWGs from 1987-2021.  Yes, he included the playoff OT winners as well because as he said, “Why not?”

This compilation made me all kerflempt.  So grab a beer, have this on the big screen TV, sit back, and enjoy.  This is way better than, “Netflix and chill.”
