——-Thank you for all the memories and the impact you made on and off the ice here in Hockeytown.
—— Totally agree. When SY left I thought it’s the end of an era. Then when Lidstrom. Then Zetternerg. And now another end of an era with Helm and Glen leaving

It’s time, but I’ll never forget the shifts we used to get out of this guy….  like the one against Ed Jovanoski or the PK shift against chicago, when the fans gave him a standing O for a PK shift.

Good luck Helmer!!

Both him and Glen should get standing O when they come to Detroit with their new teams

For sure!! Totally Agree. The Wings lost a lot of heart with these two leaving. I wish both of them good luck and good health.

Is it crappy of me that one of my biggest Helm memories was this game and him sealing that series a game too early forcing us (via Bettman’s hijinks) to play Pittsburgh without Pavel for 2 games?  Had that series went 1 more game, we would not have been jammed into that weekend, and likely have Pavel for the entire series, and in my humble opinion, win back to back cups.

Also Malkin was supposed to be suspended for game 6, but rules were changed

Definitely not still bitter 12 years later about Buttman changing the rules multiple times to disadvantage us during the playoffs.

We of course got a repeat of it in 2012 when Weber was not suspended for his targeted hit on Zetterberg.  As with the Malkin hit, the message was the the league considered cheap shots on Zetterberg to be a-ok.  He played for Detroit, so f him.

With Malkin it was even more objective and more black and white. Instigating a fight with 5 minutes to go was an automatic suspension

I’m still irritated just thinking about it.  We’d have won another Cup if Patrick Sharp hadn’t *ruptured Lidstrom’s testicle* in Game 3 of the Chicago series.

Adding a dollop of irony:  it was the only game of the series Chicago won, and Sharp, who only got 2 minutes for the offense, scored the OT winner.

In fairness, it was inadvertent and he apologized afterward.  But still, that’s an absolutely brutal injury to our best player.

He should have been suspended for game 3 after he jumped Zetteberg at the end of game 2. Pittsburgh won game 3 -2 with Malkin assisting on al 3 of Pittsburgh’s goals. Add Pittsburgh having too many men on the ice for almost half a minute wit no penalty being called, along with the linesmen telling the extra player to get off the ice. At that point of the game the Red Wings led 2-1. Shortly after not calling a penalty on Pittsburgh for too many men on the ice, a penalty was called on the Red Wings. Of course Pittsburgh scored tying the game. The non suspension on Malkin along with the Game 3 fiasco, proved to me the setup by Bettman. Disgusted to this day.  angry
