The Talk After Today’s Practice

I'll post videos in this post when available.

added 12:28pm, Brad Galli tweet,

Asked Jeff Blashill about Raymond and Seider making an immediate impact — and possible frustrations Zadina has with a lack of scoring.

Blashill said the world tends to overreact to small sample sizes. He said he believes Zadina is more than a goal-scorer, and is still young.

added 12:45pm, Videos of Fabbri and Blashill are below.

No surgery for Mitchell Stephens but he too is out until the Olympic break.

I caught a bit of the Kal and Caputo inside hockeytown, and Pat said bla blah blah who cares, but Kal mentioned that the Wings and Maple Leafs have played more games than anyone else thus far. You think about where this team is at, with the rookies playing prominent roles, having Larking and Bertuzzi in and out of the lineup, and you can see where lack of on ice practice time can be detrimental, along with tired legs.

That and Staal being out.

if staal was, is, or ever becomes a make or break piece that means this team is any kind of contender, i will donate $2500 to the Daniels foundation.

this team is Bad. we mostly all knew they would be. anyone holding out hope for even the playoffs this season is fooling themselves. they’re improved. there’s hope for the future. the first bit of hope we should all have, however, is for the 2022 lottery.

With more practice time, I hope to see more of the snappy/ one touch passing on the PP that we saw early in the season.

He’s not a make or break piece, but with him, we can use our 3rd pair against better matchups vs. Leddy & Hronek, and our PK is better, he does make us marginally better

Fair. Can we all agree this is the first time in awhile that it’s legit sort of tough to see what looks like close to a good team still floundering like it’s 3 years ago? This road trip set them back so badly. Also annoying that moving one marginal piece around won’t change any of that.

I can’t be upset with the team - they’ve exceeded my expectations from before the season and I’ve been impressed with a number of things:

1) Larkin looks like a CAPTAIN now.  The way he carries himself, talks, leads, is respected - it’s all a big step from before.

2) Bert is a monster and the locomotive of the team.

3) Seider is young but you can see so much potential there.  I haven’t been excited about a Wings dman in so long; I just can only imagine what 4 years in the NHL is going to do for him.

4) Raymond - basically the same as Seider.  Loads of potential and he is a sponge on the bench.  He WANTS to be better, and is going to make it happen.

Unfortunately, outside of those four better-than-expected, things are more as expected:
1) Still don’t have strong d.

2) There’s not much scoring outside of the top line.

3) The power play still stinks.

All in all, I’m having more fun watching Wings games than I have in a long time.  The future is bright, it’s coming.  But it’s still years away.

Tough but not expected right?

A team with 2 red shirt freshmen leading the drive, one on our top line and the other as our #1 D-man, as well as returning 3 players, 2 of which in Larkin and Bert that are our best, that didn’t finish a substantive chunk of last season is bound to hit 2 or 3 bad skids.

Somebody said once, this is a man’s league, well I think that rings some truth, the emotional juice only carries so far, I think that road trip was evidence of that.

Yep,
Time to fire another PP coach under Blashill. I cannot recall what number Tanguay is. Third, fourth? It all a blur.
