Part 2 Of The Survey Says

from Max Bultman of The Athletic,

Today, we’ll dig in to Part 2, starting with expectations for a certain soon-to-be rookie defenseman.

The most popular answer, at 45 percent, was that he would make a quick difference and hold his own in the top four all year — still an optimistic prediction by any definition, but one that has merit after Seider was the SHL’s top defenseman last season at 19. Perhaps more interestingly, though: a much higher percentage of readers (38.4 percent) expect Seider to take some early lumps than the percentage that expect him to be a Calder Trophy finalist (14.2 percent) or win it outright (2.1 percent)....

Do you believe Dylan Larkin will be the Red Wings 'No,1 center the next time they win a playoff series?

I was fascinated to see the results to this question. The plurality of respondents (45.7 percent) voted that Larkin will be the team’s No. 2 center the next time the Red Wings win a playoff series. That’s certainly possible, but it does raise the question of when those voters think the team will next win a playoff series.

Think about it: even if the team drafts a center next summer who turns out to someday be better than Larkin (which is possible, but far from a guarantee), will that player really be ready to be the No. 1 center on a playoff team within three or four years? If that player is presumptive No. 1 pick Shane Wright, then quite possibly yes....

That’s part of it, but I think many of us (the majority) think that while Larkin is a good hockey player and has the sort of drive you LIKE to see, his talent ceiling may be at the 2C position.  He’s currently being forced into the 1C role and doing okay, but I think he’d be a much better 2C.  Similar to how Kronwall was a beast on the 3/4 Dman position, but was forced into the top pairing and was not nearly as effective or impactful.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
