No Change For Tyler Bertuzzi Playing In Canada

The NHL/NHLPA released their COVID protocol beginning today and for the NHL season.

It is in a PDF format but here is what Detroit fans are interested in...

Currently, the Canadian-U.S. border continues to have travel quarantine restrictions in place that are related to a person’s vaccination status. Given this, and absent receipt of an exemption from the relevant U.S. or Canadian health authorities, unvaccinated Individuals (as defined by CDC and/or Health Canada) may not be allowed to travel across the Canadian-U.S. border or may be required to quarantine, which would obviously limit their ability to participate in Club activities (e.g., playing in Games, Club travel, and training activities) (hereafter “Club Activities”). As of the effective date of this document, neither Canada nor the U.S. requires a negative COVID-19 test (rapid antigen or molecular) prior to entry. As a reminder, individuals who are COVID19 positive remain subject to the isolation restrictions set forth below as well as those imposed by local health authorities.

added 5:16pm, more details below...

Hey Canada- the world is over China Virus.

Thought you should know….

Fun fact: the US has the exact same rule.

I am not the least bit surpised, given the mental state Our Leader is in.

Posted by pnwwing on 08/16/22 at 06:16 PM ET

Oh, you’re one of those.

Never mind, I’ll see myself out.

The virus is most definitely NOT over us. BA.5 has killed over 19,000 Americans.

Bert was, and remains, a selfish idiot, as is anyone else who is too childish to get some shots without good reason.

Posted by Chet from twitter: thegansen on 08/16/22 at 06:48 PM ET

maybe check out the Quatar study on natural immunity, up to 80% based on original variant infected with,  That is higher than any protection from the vaccine for BA4 or 5.  (don’t know which variant Bert had).  Or the the Thai adolescent study of the the significant rate of dangerous side effects from the vaccine.

If I had known the rate of Pericarditis/myocarditis from the vaccine, I would never have taken it. I lived through a 2 week hell from pericarditis, and do not wish that on anyone.

In the end it is a PERSONAL decision about PERSONAL health.  He is allowed that and shouldn’t be insulted for it.  That is like calling everyone who got vaxxed, sheeple.

I’m going to say this one more time,
as someone who got vaccinated and boosted
as soon as possible and who supports people
getting vaccinated:

Being vaccinated is not about protecting others.
That has long, long ceased to be the case.

Vaccinated people can become infected with Covid and
can spread it just as easily as unvaccinated people.
The only real remaining benefit is to lessen symptoms and help
prevent hospitalizations in cases of older people and/or
people with underlying conditions which put them at greater risk.

That’s it!

Clinging to these onerous restrictions and protocols (and mandates)
is grossly counterproductive at this point. I say this as someone who
for what it’s worth has always voted for the party currently in power in DC:
this has become as much about a tribalized, partisan desire to virtue signal
while controlling and punishing others who dare to hold different views.

Tyler Bertuzzi is a young, healthy, extremely fit pro athlete.
It’s August 2022, not March 2020, and he is not posing any more danger
to anyone including himself than any of his vaccinated teammates.

These restrictions are stupidly stubborn and outmoded.
There had better be exceptions for pro athletes traveling with their teams.
There is no longer any rational basis to exclude an unvaccinated pro athlete.

A virus doesn’t care if you’re an old man or a 26-yo pro athlete. That is simply stupid. Both can carry and spread it.

The truth is that the health officials lied, the shots only serve as a symptom reducer. I give some benefit of the doubt to medical pro’s in the field, I don’t think it was malicious on their end, they just didn’t know, how could they, their profession rushed through shots of false hope in a dire time of need, and many people with co-morbidities did need those shots. I just truly hope there’s no long term impacts discovered down the road, especially with the females in my family, science has certainly been wrong before.

But that was at the peak of the pandemic.  To not call this what it is at this point, when the most public of quadruple vax’ed people are getting covid is just pure stupidity on a government level on one hand with political forces not letting false narratives die, with forced control on the other, but we should expect nothing less from the dictatorship Canada has become and the US aspires to be.

Yep and we now know that both also can be double vax and triple boosted, still get covid, and still pass covid to others. Frankly being less symptomatic, they might do so more readily, not seeing signs they are carrying it.  So what’s the point of this level of control?

I like to escape politics by coming to KK (and yes, COVID is a political issue when it comes to border crossings at this point.)

As I believe Kate from Pa. likes to say, This is a hockey blog, bitches.

That said, while Bert’s a big boy who can handle himself just fine in the corners, do we really need ad hominem attacks on our guys.  Save those elbows for Blackhawks fans for crying out loud.

Normally I agree with you, I personally hate the discussion virus that is politics where any general discussion devolves into two sides arguing about which flawed old white man is better/worse than the other flawed old white man, but this is simply unavoidable so long as the conversation sticks to the topic at hand IMO.

This is a governmental and mostly political policy out of Canada that is having a direct impact on one of our better players, our hockey team, and the season. It is worthy of discussion, hopefully folks stick to the narrow lane.

Does he lose his salary for the games he doesn’t play in Canada?

I might be behind on the details of this one, sorry.

Let’s not do this again, we can agree to disagree even though we’re talking about facts and science and not your feelings. You feel like the restrictions etc were too much and I even get it. But as far as Bert goes? Selfish idiot, bad teammate. Get the *#$%@& shots, dude.

And btw if he has a legit health reason not to get it, fine and none of my business. But that sure doesn’t seem to be the case.

“...none of my business.”

Got that part right

Well, as a fan, I can FEEL like he’s a bad teammate, if he has no good reason to skip the shots.

Just do the math. How many canada games is this nearly a point a game player going to miss? Are you guys willing to change your opinion if the Wings miss the playoffs by a point or two next spring and went .300 in canada? What then, you geniuses?

I’m sorry, troll feeding ends at 10pm Eastern

Try to sleep this one off, Chet

I stand with Bert, but you knew that.
