Jeff Blashill Likes The Look Of The Top Line

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

Lucas Raymond impressed enough during the preseason to apparently earn not only a place on the Detroit Red Wings’ opening-night roster, but also a spot on the top line.

Raymond practiced with Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi on Monday, and that is where it appears the 19-year-old fourth overall pick from 2020 will make his NHL debut Thursday in the season-opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Little Caesars Arena (7:30 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit).

“Larks gives anybody he plays with pace; one thing Lucas has to continue to learn is to play at that higher pace,” coach Jeff Blashill said Monday. “He’s a really smart player that has to move his feet more to go get pucks, to pressure. But Larkin kind of forces you to play at a pretty high pace.

“Potentially, we like the look of that line. Bert goes and gets the puck a lot. Larks brings that pace high, and Lucas is a really smart, savvy offensive player. But we’ll have to continue to watch it and see.”

Raymond’s performance, in part, also influenced the Red Wings’ decision to release 34-year-old right wing Bobby Ryan from his tryout.

Well,  Red Wings mgt makes a crowd pleaser decision,  Raymond over Ryan, youth over age, this time the tie doesn’t go to the vet.  I’m a happy camper with this decision so now we wait to see the golden 23 submitted to the league, and with that we will see if any injuries need a replacement body.  We already know one for sure is Vrana, who will remain on the roster in his place?  The other injuries I believe are day to day and will have no impact..

I believe we all should be happy Raymond made the team. I would put him on a second line and Zadina on the first, but these are details. I really would like to see Veleno making the team too, he is not worse than Ganger and Names to name a few. I also think he is better than Stephens.

Somebody needs to go on IR in addition to Vrana otherwise one more needs to get sent down.

Cholo made it and as a top 6 d-man unlike what Kevin Allen wrote—-although he was helped in part by Jamie Oleksiak being in COVID-19 protocols.

Kraken opening night roster:
Forwards: Mason Appleton, Alex Barre-Boulet, Nathan Bastian, Ryan Donato, Jordan Eberle, Morgan Geekie, Marcus Johansson, Kole Lind, Jaden Schwartz, Riley Sheahan, Brandon Tanev, Alexander True, Alex Wennberg.

Defensemen: Will Borgen, Dennis Cholowski, Vince Dunn, Haydn Fleury, Mark Giordano, Adam Larsson,

I’d rather switch Rowney out. He didn’t look good at all during preseason. Not sure what Blash thinks he saw in Rowney that made him think he’d be a keeper on the big club.

Other than that, I think we’re in decent shape for what we have.

‘I don’t like x decision, Blashill must have made the decision all by himself, usurping Yzerman.’
