Elmer Soderblom Progressing Nicely

from Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now,

Six-foot-eight Detroit Red Wings prospect Elmer Soderblom is getting people to notice him for more than his height. With 12 goals in 33 games for Frolunda, Soderblom is the highest-scoring player age 21-and-under in the Swedish Hockey League.

“All of these things with coordination are coming together,” TSN draft analyst Craig Button said. “His skating is better. He’s a little bit quicker. He’s a little bit strong. So that makes him even more imposing.”

The Red Wings drafted Elmer Soderblom in the sixth round, at No. 159, in 2019. But today he is considered one of their more intriguing forward prospects

Button remembers watching Soderblom at age 15 and 16 and it was difficult to project what he would be like because his body and coordination were out of sync. “He was like Bambi out there,” Button.

In case you missed this..

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned center Gemel Smith to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins for conditioning.

Perhaps he can develop into a 6’ 8” Tomas Holmstrom net-front-presence on power play in a few years. His size can block out more of the goalie’s view, and with deft stick handling in the slot, could really help a weak power play.

All well and good. Lindstrom. Soderblom. Berggren. Albert Johansson. Raymond. Edvinsson and more, all from Sweden. Nothing wrong with talent from Sweden, but I would like to see a few six foot four junk yard dogs from Saskatoon, Moose Jaw or Flin Flon as well.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
