Danny DeKeyser’s Future With The Wings

After Dekeyser played in the last home game at Little Caesars Arena this season, he admitted to trying to soak in the atmosphere.

“Anytime you’re in a situation like this where your contract’s up, you never really know what’s gonna happen,” Dekeyser said. “Definitely you have thoughts that go through your head if it is your last home game or not. That stuff will take care of itself in the summer. There’s not a whole lot to worry about right now.”

Dekeyser had to know then that he wasn’t coming back to the Red Wings. His performance level has declined. As much as the organization may appreciate that he’s a Michigan native who gave 10 years of service, the Red Wings are moving in a different direction. In addition to wanting Dekeyser’s $5 million cap space, the Red Wings need roster spots for young defensemen such as Simon Edvinsson and Albert Johansson. Eemil Viro may also be close to ready.

Dekeyser hopes he’s not at the end of his career.

“I would love to keep playing if I can,” He said. “I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. That stuff will play itself out in the summertime.”

Dekeyser said his back was feeling good at the end of the season.

Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News with a look at the Griffins season…

There was no late-season promotion to the Wings, but there’s every expectation Berggren will compete for an NHL job next training camp.

“Our first and foremost priority down here is to develop. Some of our players developed very nicely this year,” Simon said.

That also included defenseman Jared McIsaac, a 2018 second-round pick by the Wings.

After battling a series of injuries the past two seasons, McIsaac stayed healthy and flashed his potential as a two-way defenseman. McIsaac played 70 games, with 24 points (five goals, 19 assists).

Steve Yzerman, the Wings’ general manager, announced at his season-ending press conference that he planned no changes in terms of the Griffins’ coaching staff, noting the work of Simon and his staff under difficult COVID conditions, particularly early in the season.

Simon was appreciative of Yzerman’s decision.

“Pro sports is cutthroat at times, and you can do an unbelievable job and feel like you’ve done as best you can, and things can change,” Simon said. “It’s good to hear they are happy with the development that’s gone on down here, but you can’t get complacent. As soon as you get complacent, that’s when people pass you by.”

The Griffins will begin preparation for next season in the next couple weeks

“We’ll take some time, reflect and see what we need to do to become a better group, a better team, a better staff,” Simon said. “We’ve done some good things this year for sure. We’ve got to obviously continue to evolve to become better so that this doesn’t happen again. We use this as motivation to come back next year better, stronger and hungrier.”

Really wish there was an easier way to watch this, probably won’t end up catching any of the games. I guess I’d rather watch playoff games instead.

If you have a VPN and can make yourself appear in another country, you can probably watch by clicking the “stream” button on the iihf game center page.

The stream feature is not available in the united states but with a VPN you can probably put yourself in another country that works.

SIMON says…....... What I would really like to ask him is Since we have so much talent down there, how com GR Griffs did not make the playoffs ??? Close to the bottom of the league !!! So, really there is no one there that can help the big club, hopefully the future stars were in College or Europe or in Junior, right????
