Damn shame.  Hes 10x the player Rowney is, even at this stage of his career.

It’s surprising, I thought Ryan looked good in preseason and everybody knows about his leadership qualities.

So, Raymond made the team?

Does that wording mean that Ryan was the one who walked away? Hopefully he’ll land somewhere, bkz he deserves a shot.

I hope this means Raymond makes the team with plenty of ice time.

Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

Good luck to Mr. Ryan, seems like a good guy, real team player. I think his ability to stay healthy was a deciding factor..too bad.

Strange to see Carter Rowney still hanging around. I guess the thought with him is you need a little size on your 4th line/penalty killers..?? , but couldn’t Rasmussen fill that spot.???

Speaking of Rasmussen, how does he skate opening night with almost no pre-season/ training camp action.???? Not sure if he is waiver exempt or not, if not then this answers the question.

I’m good with Raymond or Veleno over Ryan.
In fact I hope they both stick.

All these years crying about old guys taking up spots, and we’re gonna shed tears over Bobby Ryan?

With Raymond and Veleno as potential mainstays?

Hope he latches on somewhere, but yeah, hard to be too heartbroken if it means that Veleno & Raymond have a better shot at sticking with the big club.

Your comment only makes sense if Veleno was playing on the 2/3rd lines like Ryan was.

Instead he’s 4th line.

Ryan is better at 3rd than the clowns we have there.

Adios Bobby. Hope he gets another chance to play a little more somewhere else but i’m fine letting him walk if it means we get Veleno + Raymond.

Veleno + Raymond > Bobby Ryan. I don’t care what lines they’re on. We’ve been screaming YOUTH MOVEMENT for years. Here it comes.

Good luck to Bobby, a complete class act, and a guy who deserves to go out on his own terms.

I have to think they couldn’t promise anything above 4th-line duties, and they both decided to walk away. Rowney is likely the 13th forward, if not AHL fodder, and Ryan doesn’t really fit anywhere else.

I do not think even Blash and SY could predict how good Raymond would look

Im thrilled Raymond seems to be sticking around, but Id rather see Veleno play 1C minutes in GR than as a 4th line winger for the Wings.  Now if they move Gagner down and put him on the 3rd line, it makes the Ryan decision more palatable.

And who knows what the shuffle will be when Vrana comes back.

Poobah, do you really believe it’s Blashills decision to release Ryan and not offer him a contract?

No I don’t believe that. I do believe you will see line combos with Names and Rowney all over not just on the PK or the 4th line just like Glendening and Helm. I was hoping the days of stone hands pk specialists might have come to an end.

Guessing Stevie decision.  It might be a good guess Ryan might end back with Senators, even though they bought him out, probably could slot him in for nothing.  I see they need one more forward, probably waiting to see what shakes out.

Guessing Stevie decision

He has the last say, but ,definitely a combined front office decision.

Gotta weird dynamic going on: a bad decision is Blashill’s decision, and a good one must be Yzerman’s. Just devoid of Any reasoning.

Clearly Mrs Blashill wasn’t as impressed with Ryan as she was with Raymond.

Maybe Ryan wasn’t willing to play 4th line minutes or possibly be out of the lineup many nights.
