Moore’s Tact

I’ve read a few articles regarding Steve Moore’s comments of yesterday.  He wants to play, but can’t.  He’s frustrated and we understand it, and he’s biting his tongue.

“I think it’s best we avoid that,” Moore said when asked if he would be able to forgive Bertuzzi.

Moore said he feels frustrated that he has been unable to overcome head injuries he suffered in the on-ice attack while Bertuzzi continues to pursue an NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings.

Closing The Loop

Updated 1015 EST:  Khan(!) has posted the entire THN GM ranking list at his blog.

Seems like a good day to tie up a few loose ends, address a few issues that would typically be in my lane.  Oh,  you know the ones.  Renegade columnists, Wing GM’s, alleged “disharmony” in the Wings room.  But before we get to the Wings, I wanted to make small mention of the consistent pride all Sailors have in the Navy’s participation in our nation’s space program.  You can’t beat statements like this when it comes to improving service morale.

“Crazy, diaper-wearing would-be murderer Lisa Nowak has been fired from NASA and returned to duty as a US Navy captain.”

That, my friends, is what I call fun for the whole family.

Death By Blackberry

I have reached a new low, a new pathetic nap in the gutter of fandom and the means by which I'm forced to watch/listen to/track my Wings. As some of you know, I restlessly bide my days in DC waiting for Mrs. IwoCPO and the brood to head north from The State That Hockey Forgot, or Forgot Hockey, or whatever.

Are You Well Enough To Watch?

Bubba doesn’t feel well. He’s got the flu, a broken foot, an upper body issue and a back thing going on.  But he’s the picture of health compared to the Wings.

Injuries: Detroit—Tomas Holmstrom (upper body), G Dominik Hasek (thigh), F Todd Bertuzzi (back), F Henrik Zetterberg (back), F Dan Cleary (knee), F Mikael Samuelsson (foot), F Tomas Kopecky (collarbone), out.

Nashville—F David Legwand (upper body), F Jason Arnott (flu-like symptoms), probable; F Peter Forsberg (upper body), doubtful; F Steve Sullivan (back), F Scott Hartnell (foot), out.

Can you recall a game this allegedly important with such a rash of injuries? Me either.

Myself Is Conflicted

Did a little research last night after the game, wondering if my suspicions were correct.  What suspicions, you ask?  Well, I was under the impression the Wings had lost 611 consecutive OT games.  Apparently I was wrong.  They’ve won 11 out of their last 39.  So that’s better.

But am I the only one?  Am I isolated in my sadness when they’re tied at the end of regulation?  My wife watched the whole game with me then left the room without saying a word as soon as overtime started.  She knew.

Poisoning The Room?

Steve Simmons knows Detroit hockey almost as well as Andy Strickland or Mitch Albom.

First the Detroit Red Wings tried to get Owen Nolan. Then they traded for Todd Bertuzzi. Apparently, their goal is to determine how quickly they can poison their environment.

Yeah, because the Wings have a long history of disgruntled players in the room.  Of all the concerns out there regarding Bertuzzi, disharmony is the least of them.

As for Nolan?  I suppose because the Leafs had issues with him, and vice versa, that means every other team would too?  That, my friends, is a stretch.

Thanks to Lindy at Red Wings Central for the pointer.

Unleash Bertuzzi

The day after the deadline we saw the predictable column of outrage from the Delicate Genius, Mitch Albom.  It was precisely the formula he’s followed the last five years:  ignore the Wings until an event occurs that makes it impossible not to write something, anything; then scribble out a few paragraphs with no original thought, and certainly nothing that would require a trip to the Joe.

Khan(!): Hasek Out Sunday, Chelios Possible

According to the DD Captain,

Dominik Hasek came in for treatment on his sore thigh but did not go on the ice and won’t dress for Sunday’s game vs. Colorado, as Chris Osgood gets his second straight start. Chris Chelios (groin) said he thinks he’ll be able to play, but coach Mike Babcock said it would be a game-time decision.

A Rudderless Ship

Longtime poster from MLive, RWBill, has begun a thread over at the Godfather’s Message Board on the league’s unwillingness to address the number of shots to the head.

The NHL front office is surely the biggest collection of cowards in a professional league as this great Hockey Ship careens rudderless in stormy waters.  We’re all on board watching in horror with no way to right the ship while Captain Bettman is locked in his quarters playing backgammon with no concern for the welfare of the crew.  Concussions and injuries requiring hospitalization continue to pile up without so much as a peep from the NHL.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
