SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed Group II restricted free agent forward Ryane Clowe to a four-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
After missing most of the 2007-08 regular season due to a knee injury, Clowe, 26, bounced back with a career best NHL season. In 71 games, he registered career highs in goals (22), assists (30) and points (52). He ranked sixth on the team in goals and tied first on the team in power play goals (11). He registered his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick (a goal, assist, and fighting major) vs. Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008.
“We believe Ryane is entering the prime of his career and can be a dominant player in this League for years to come,” said Wilson. “We feel he is an important piece to this team as his hard-nosed play, passion for the game and commitment to succeed are all part of his make-up.”
