Blues Sign Huskins

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed free agent defenseman Kent Huskins to a one-year contract.

“Kent brings size and leadership to our defensive corps and we are looking forward to him joining the Blues,” said Armstrong.

Huskins, 32, played in 50 games for the San Jose Sharks last season, registering 10 points (two goals, eight assists) along with 12 penalty minutes.  In addition, the 6’4”, 210-pound defenseman posted a +8 rating, his fourth consecutive season of being a plus player (+43).  Huskins captured a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007 and has played in five National Hockey League (NHL) seasons, recording 60 points (11 goals, 49 assists) along with 159 penalty minutes in 274 career games.

Blues Re-Sign Chris Porter

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has re-signed forward Chris Porter to a one-year contract extension. 

Porter, 27, appeared in 45 games for the Blues this past season recording seven points (three goals, four assists) while also dressing in 36 games for the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Peoria Rivermen, tallying 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists).  Overall, the 6’1, 200-pound forward has played in 51 career National Hockey League (NHL) games, all with the Blues, posting nine points (four goals, five assists).

Blues Re-Sign Defenseman Nikita Nikitin

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has re-signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a one-year contract extension. 
Nikitin, 24, made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut on November 6, 2010 at Boston and appeared in 41 games overall during his rookie year with the Blues in 2010-11 recording nine points (goal, eight assists) including his first career NHL point (assist) on February 4, 2011 against Edmonton.  The 6’3, 217-pound defenseman also dressed in 22 games for the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Peoria Rivermen, tallying 14 points including three goals and 11 assists. 

The Omsk, Russia native was originally drafted by the Blues in the fifth round, 136th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Blues Re-Sign T.J. Hensick

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has re-signed forward T.J. Hensick to a two-year contract extension.

Hensick, 25, played in 13 games for the Blues last season, recording three points (one goal, two assists) and played in 59 games for the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Peoria Rivermen, registering 69 points (21 goals, 48 assists).  The 5’10”, 190-pound forward’s 69 points led the Rivermen and ranked 10th in the AHL while his 48 assists led the team and tied for fifth in the AHL.  Hensick played in his third AHL All-Star game when he represented the Western Conference at the 2011 AHL-All Star Classic.

The Lansing, Michigan native was acquired by the Blues from Colorado in exchange for Julian Talbot on June 17, 2010 and was originally drafted by Colorado in the third round (88th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Blues Make Some Moves

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has recalled forwards Stefan Della Rovere (DEHL-ah ROH-vair) and Dave Scatchard from the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.  The Blues also assigned forwards T.J. Hensick and Chris Porter to Peoria and placed forward David Perron on injured reserve.  Perron has missed 13 games after being injured in the Blues’ 2-0 win over San Jose on November 4 at Scottrade Center.

Blues Place Jackman On IR

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has placed defenseman Barret Jackman on injured reserve with a sprained knee, suffered in last night’s 2-0 win over San Jose at Scottrade Center.  Jackman will be re-evaluated in three weeks by Dr. Rick Wright.  In addition, Blues’ defenseman Roman Polak will have his wrist laceration re-evaluated in eight weeks by Dr. Martin Boyes.  The Blues have recalled defenseman Ian Cole from the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Blues Name New Interim CEO

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 23, 2010) - Dave Checketts, Chairman of SCP Worldwide and the St. Louis Blues, today announced that Peter McLoughlin, CEO of Blues Enterprises, is leaving the organization to become president of the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.

Mike McCarthy, a partner with SCP Worldwide and vice chairman of the Blues, has been named interim CEO of Blues Enterprises.  A national search will be conducted to identify candidates to fill the position on a permanent basis.  Blues Enterprises was formed in 2006 to manage all business operations of the Blues, Scottrade Center and Peabody Opera House, including sales, marketing, finance and building operations.

Blues Sign Dean Arsene

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed defenseman Dean Arsene to a two-way contract.

Arsene, 30, spent last season between the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Springfield Falcons and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Edmonton Oilers.  In 56 games with Springfield, the 6-2, 195-pound defenseman tallied two goals and nine assists for 11 points to go along with 100 penalty minutes while in his first career NHL stint, he recorded 41 penalty minutes in 13 games with Edmonton.  Prior to 2009-10, he enjoyed a seven-year AHL career including the past six seasons with the Hershey Bears.  In total, Arsene has dressed in 373 AHL games registering 10 goals and 48 assists for 58 points to accompany 868 penalty minutes.

Dave Scatchard Signs With Blues

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed forward Dave Scatchard to a two-way contract.

Scatchard, 34, spent his 2009-10 campaign between the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Milwaukee Admirals and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Nashville Predators.  With Milwaukee, he made 36 appearances and posted 30 points on 20 goals and 10 assists to go along with 59 penalty minutes while he registered five points on three goals and two assists to accompany 17 penalty minutes in 16 games with Nashville.  During the past 13 seasons, the 6-3, 210-pound center has had an NHL-heavy career including stints with Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Boston, Phoenix and Nashville totaling 651 games, 268 points (128g, 140a) and 1034 penalty minutes.  In addition, his NHL playoff career has spanned 17 games and yielded four points (2g, 2a) and 34 penalty minutes.  He has also accrued 49 points (29g, 20a) and 138 penalty minutes in his 74-game AHL career which has included stops in Syracuse, Hartford and Milwaukee. 

The Hinton, Alberta native was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round, 42nd overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Blues Sign Nikitin

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin.

Nikitin, 23, has spent the past seven seasons with Omsk Avangard in Russia.  In his seven-year career, the 6’3”, 215-pound defenseman has played in 265 games for Omsk totaling 61 points on 13 goals and 48 assists including 219 penalty minutes.  Nikitin was originally drafted by the Blues in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
