Minor San Jose/Florida Trade

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has acquired forward Tim Kennedy from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Sean Sullivan. Kennedy has been assigned to Worcester, San Jose’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

Kennedy, 25, has split the season between Florida and San Antonio (NHL).  He posted two points (1-1=2) in 27 NHL games with Florida this season and added nine points (3-6=9) in 18 AHL games with San Antonio.  In 112 career NHL games with Buffalo and Florida, he has posted 29 points (11-18=29).  He appeared in six playoff games in 2009-10 with Buffalo registering three points (1-2=3).

The five-foot-ten, 175-pound native of Buffalo, New York was originally selected by Washington in the sixth round (181st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Sullivan, 27, was second amongst Worcester defensemen this season with 24 points (5-19=24) in 32 games.  He appeared in 105 games with Worcester in the last two seasons recording 59 points (17-42=59).

Sharks Sign Andrew Murray

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed Group III unrestricted center Andrew Murray to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Murray,29, collected eight points (four goals, four assists) in 29 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, while also missing 31 games due to two separate injuries.

In 181 NHL games all with Columbus, Murray has posted 36 points (23 goals, 13 assists) and 32 penalty minutes.

Sharks Assign Greiss To SEL

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has assigned goaltender Thomas Greiss to Brynas of the Swedish Elite League.

In 19 career NHL games with San Jose, Greiss has posted a 7-5-2 record with a 2.77 goals-against average.  He was assigned to Worcester (AHL) on Oct. 13, but did not appear in a game.

“We’ve always had a commitment to goaltender development and we feel that Thomas has a great chance to play a lot of games and continue his improvement with Brynas,” stated Wayne Thomas, Assistant General Manager of the San Jose Sharks.

Sharks Form Affiliation With Stockton Thunder

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President General Manager Doug Wilson and Vice President and Assistant General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the Sharks have signed an affiliation agreement with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL for the 2010-11 season.  The Worcester Sharks continue to serve as San Jose’s American Hockey League affiliate.

“We are very excited to add the Stockton Thunder as our ECHL development affiliate,” said Wilson.  “The Thunder have done a great job bringing winning hockey to their market and we think the proximity of our teams will provide mutual benefits for both franchises on and off the ice.”

Stockton will also continue to serve as an affiliate for the Edmonton Oilers.

“The San Jose Sharks have been one of the premier NHL organizations over the last several years and we’re very excited to begin working with them this upcoming season,” said Stockton Thunder President Dan Chapman.  “For geographic reasons this affiliation makes a great deal of sense and we also look forward to their participation in making the Thunder an even better team in 2010-11.”

Ortmeyer Signs With Sharks

SAN JOSE –  San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed right wing Jed Ortmeyer to a one-year contract.  Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Jed is a skilled, two-way player who adds tremendous depth to our organization,” said Wilson.  “He’s the type of player that pushes his teammates and competes with a high level of energy.”

Sharks Finally Announce The Signing Of Clowe

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed Group II restricted free agent forward Ryane Clowe to a four-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

        After missing most of the 2007-08 regular season due to a knee injury, Clowe, 26, bounced back with a career best NHL season. In 71 games, he registered career highs in goals (22), assists (30) and points (52). He ranked sixth on the team in goals and tied first on the team in power play goals (11). He registered his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick (a goal, assist, and fighting major) vs. Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008.

“We believe Ryane is entering the prime of his career and can be a dominant player in this League for years to come,” said Wilson.  “We feel he is an important piece to this team as his hard-nosed play, passion for the game and commitment to succeed are all part of his make-up.”

Sharks Sign Nick Petrecki

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed defenseman Nick Petrecki, the team’s first round (28th overall) selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, to an NHL contract.  In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Petrecki has spent the last two seasons playing at Boston College.  This season, the Schenectady, NY native has posted seven assists in 35 games.  The sturdy defenseman also registered 161 penalty minutes, which ranked first on the team.

Petrecki played a significant role on Boston College’s 2008 National Championship team. The six-foot-three, 220-pound defenseman played in 42 games for the Eagles, registering 12 points (five goals, seven assists) while amassing 102 penalty minutes.

Sharks Sign UFA Brandon Mishinter

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forward Brandon Mishinter to an entry-level contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

        Mashinter, a 20-year old left wing, is currently playing for the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, where he was acquired via trade from the Kitchener Rangers in December.

        The six-foot-four, 232-pound native of Bradford, Ontario has posted 53 points (30 goals, 23 assists) in 47 games, with a plus-nine rating and 67 penalty minutes.

        “We are very pleased to be able to add a player of Brandon’s caliber to our organization,” said Wilson.  “Brandon’s career has really blossomed this season and he deserves a lot of credit, along with Belleville General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett.

Torrey Mitchell On Conditioning Assignment

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that forward Torrey Mitchell has been sent on a conditioning assignment to the Worcester Sharks, San Jose’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

        Mitchell has missed the entire 2008-09 season thus far recovering from a leg injury.
