Predators Assign Begin To AHL After Clearing Waivers

Nashville, Tenn. (October 21, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed free-agent forward Steve Begin to a one-year, two-way contract worth $550,000 on the NHL level and $105,000 on the AHL level. Begin cleared waivers on Thursday and will report to Milwaukee (AHL).

Nashville/Atlanta Trade

Nashville, Tenn. (September 1, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Grant Lewis from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for forward Ian McKenzie.

        Lewis, 25 (1/20/85), split the 2009-10 season between the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves and Hershey Bears, and appeared in one postseason contest during the Bears’ run to the 2010 Calder Cup. The 6-3, 190-pound blueliner, who also played on the Wolves’ 2008 Calder Cup-winning team, has posted 44 points (3g-41a) and 145 penalty minutes in 133 AHL contests since turning pro in 2007. He has also appeared in one NHL game with the Thrashers on March 3, 2009 vs. Florida.

Aaron Johnson Signs Two-Way Contract With Nashville

Nashville, Tenn. (August 31, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed free-agent defenseman Aaron Johnson to a one-year, two-way contract worth $550,000 at the National Hockey League level and $105,000 at the American Hockey League level.

        Johnson, 27 (4/30/83), split the 2009-10 season between Calgary (22 games) and Edmonton (19 games), posting a career high in goals (4) while tying a personal best in points (10). The 6-1, 208-pounder also a averaged career high 15:39 of ice time a season ago. In an NHL career that started in 2003-04 the Port Hawkesbury, N.S., native has racked up 46 points (14g-32a) and 191 penalty minutes in 225 games with the Flames, Oilers, Chicago, N.Y. Islanders and Columbus.

Predators Announce Management Changes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 10, 2010) – The Nashville Predators and Bridgestone Arena are strengthening their top leadership with the addition of a new Chief Executive Officer and a new President/Chief Operating Officer for the NHL franchise and arena.

In a move aimed at continuing the positive momentum of the organization and strengthening business operations, the ownership group announced today that Jeff Cogen has been named CEO and Sean Henry will serve as President/COO.

Jeff Cogen comes to the Predators from the Dallas Stars, where he served as the franchise’s President and alternate league governor and was a Board Member overseeing the operation of Dallas’s American Airlines Center. Under Cogen’s leadership, the Stars were consistently in the top 10 in the NHL in attendance and considered the preeminent NHL Sun Belt franchise over the last 15 years.

“Jeff has an absolutely exceptional track record of transforming the business operations of major league sports teams, specifically hockey, and we are excited to bring his expertise and experience to our top business leadership position,” said Tom Cigarran, a member of the ownership group and Predators Chairman. “His ability to not only manage the business side of our organization, but to also expand the excitement of Predators hockey and Bridgestone Arena on a citywide, regional and national level makes him the perfect person for the job.” Cogen will report directly to the Board. David Poile, President of Hockey Operations, will also continue to report directly to the Board. Cigarran continues as Predators Chairman.

Predators Trade Michael Santorelli.To Florida

Nashville, Tenn. (August 5, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired a conditional fifth-round pick (from Florida) in the 2011 Entry Draft in exchange for restricted free agent forward Michael Santorelli.

        The Predators now have nine selections in next summer’s Entry Draft at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. In addition to Florida’s pick, and seven picks of its own, Nashville acquired a second-round pick from New Jersey in June.

        Santorelli was a sixth-round choice of the Predators (178th overall) in the 2004 Draft.

Predators Sign Ryan Jones

Nashville, Tenn. (August 10, 2009) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed restricted free agent Ryan Jones on a two-year, $975,000 contract.

Jones, 25 (6/14/84), played 46 games with the Predators during his rookie season, amassing 17 points (7g-10a). The Chatham, Ont., native played his first NHL game on Oct. 10, 2008 at St. Louis and scored his first NHL goal five days later at Dallas. The 6-1, 206-pound right wing also posted 22 points (13g-9a) in 25 games with Milwaukee (AHL). He also tied for second on the Admirals in playoff goals (4) and led the team in postseason power-play markers.

Martin Gelinas Named Director of Player Development For Nashville

Nashville, Tenn. (June 15, 2009) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has named former Predator Martin Gelinas Director of Player Development.

Gelinas will be responsible for following and evaluating prospects drafted by Nashville. The Shawinigan, Quebec native will work with players on all levels throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, assisting them with their maturation process into an NHL player by focusing on nutrition, off-ice workouts and conditioning, practice habits and game performance.
