Dallas/Florida Trade

Frisco, TX – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has traded right wing Krystofer Barch and Dallas’ sixth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for left wing Jake Hauswirth and Florida’s fifth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Hauswirth, 23, has collected 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in 16 games this season for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL). The 6-5, 218-pound left wing from Houghton, MI, has recorded points in four straight games for the Killer Bees (1 goal, 4 assists). During the 2010-11 campaign, Hauswirth began the season with South Carolina Sting Rays of the ECHL, skating in 37 games and collecting 14 points (10 goals, 4 assists). On Feb. 28, 2011, Hauswirth was traded to Florida from Washington in exchange for defenseman Dennis Wideman and finished the year with the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL). In 12 games with Cincinnati, he collected 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists).

Barch, 31, has skated in 10 games this season with Dallas with 23 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-1, 237-pound right wing from Hamilton, ON has played all of his 263 career NHL games in a Dallas Stars uniform, collecting 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) and 578 PIM. During the 2010-11 season, Barch ranked third on the club in penalty minutes (80 PIM) and skated in 44 games.

Columbus Acquires Mark Letestu From Pittsburgh

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired center Mark Letestu from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2012 Entry Draft, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced tonight.

Letestu, 26, has registered one assist and two penalty minutes in 11 games with the Penguins this season. He collected 14-13-27, 13 penalty minutes and was +4 in 64 games with Pittsburgh in 2010-11. He ranked fourth among NHL rookies in game-winning goals (three), seventh in power play goals (four) and 11th (tied) in goals. In 85 career NHL games, he has 15-14-29 and 17 penalty minutes and added 0-2-2 in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Jacob Markstrom Assigned To San Antonio

SUNRISE, FL (November 7, 2011) – Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been assigned to San Antonio (AHL). In addition, goaltender Scott Clemmensen will be returned to the Panthers today following his conditioning assignment in San Antonio (AHL).

Markstrom, 21, made his first career NHL start on Oct. 18 at Washington, stopping 29-of-31 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Capitals. He earned his first career NHL win on Oct. 22 vs. the New York Islanders, turning away 18 shots in a third period relief appearance. Markstrom stopped 40-of-41 shots to earn his first complete game win on Oct. 24 at Montreal. He has appeared in five games with Florida this season going 2-2-1 with a 2.05 GAA and .944 save percentage.

The Gavle, Sweden native was drafted by Florida with their first choice (31st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Kyle Chipchura Sent To Portland

GLENDALE, ARIZONA—- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have assigned forward Kyle Chipchura to the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).

The 6-foot-2, 203 pound Chipchura was signed as an unrestricted free agent on July 19. He appeared in the season opening game at San Jose, skating in 10:39 of ice time. Last season, the Westlock, Alberta native appeared in 40 games with the Anaheim Ducks, collecting two assists.

Kevin Westgarth Extended By Kings

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with forward Kevin Westgarth, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. 

Westgarth, 27, played in 56 regular season games with the Kings last season, recording three points (all assists) and 105 penalty minutes (second on the team).  He also played in all six Kings playoff games and registered two assists and 14 penalty minutes.

In 65 career NHL regular season games, all with the Kings, Westgarth has three assists and 114 penalty minutes.

Westgarth, a 6-4, 234-pound native of Amherstburg, Ontario, had one year remaining on his contract.  The new extension runs through the 2013-14 season.  The Princeton University product originally signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent in 2007.

Tikhonov Re-Signs With Phoenix

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-signed forward Viktor Tikhonov to a one-year, two-way contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-2, 190 pound Tikhonov set new career highs in assists (23), points (33) and penalty minutes (26) in 60 games with the San Antonio Rampage (AHL) during the 2010-11 season. He also recorded a career-high three points in a game (1-2-3) at Texas on March 4 and finished the month of March with nine points (2-7-9) in 15 games.

The 23-year-old native of Riga, Lativa appeared in 61 games for Phoenix during the 2008-09 season, registering 8-8-16 and 20 PIM. In 82 career games with San Antonio, Tikhonov recorded 14-30-44 and 38 PIM.

Tikhonov was Phoenix’s second choice in the first round (28th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft. He represented Russia at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship, recording 5-2-7 in seven games while leading Russia to a bronze medal.

Justin Pogge Now Part Of The Coyotes Organization

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed goaltender Justin Pogge to a one-year, two-way contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-3, 204-pound Pogge played in 48 games with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) last season, posting a record of 22-18-4, a 3.12 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

In five AHL seasons with the Checkers, Toronto Marlies, San Antonio Rampage and Albany River Rats, the 25-year-old native of Fort McMurray, Alberta, played in 217 games posting a 106-81-20 record with eight shutouts, a 2.69 GAA and a .909 SV%.

Pogge appeared in seven NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2008-09 season, posting a record of 1-4-1. He was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the third round (90th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Sharks Sign Andrew Murray

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed Group III unrestricted center Andrew Murray to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Murray,29, collected eight points (four goals, four assists) in 29 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, while also missing 31 games due to two separate injuries.

In 181 NHL games all with Columbus, Murray has posted 36 points (23 goals, 13 assists) and 32 penalty minutes.

Coyotes Sign Four

T.J. Galiardi Reaches Contract Agreement With Colorado

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward T.J. Galiardi to a one-year contract through the 2011-12 season.

Galiardi, 23, was limited to 35 games this past season due to two separate injuries.  He missed 17 games due to a wrist injury from Nov. 12 to Dec. 15 and missed the final 28 games of the season due to a forearm injury suffered on Feb. 9 at Minnesota.  The Calgary, Alberta native finished with seven goals and eight assists for a total of 15 points.
