Sabres Announce Three Signings

BUFFALO, NY (July 7, 2011) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed goaltender Drew MacIntyre, and forwards Derek Whitmore and Colin Stuart all to one-year deals.

MacIntyre (6/24/1983, 6’0”, 184 lbs.) split time in the AHL between the Chicago Wolves and the Hamilton Bulldogs last season. MacIntyre appeared in 41 total games, collecting a record of 24-11-3 with a 2.37 GAA. He also went 11-9 with a 1.95 GAA in 20 playoff games, backstopping the Bulldogs to Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals of the Calder Cup playoffs. During his AHL career, MacIntyre has earned 142 wins, with 85 losses and 13 OTL in 261 games played with a 2.39 GAA. In two career NHL games, both with the Vancouver Canucks in 2007-08, he posted a 2.95 GAA and an 0-1-0 record. A native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, MacIntyre was a fourth round selection (121st overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Whitmore (12/17/1984, 5’11”, 190 lbs.) collected 47 points (27+20) in 80 games last season for the Portland Pirates (AHL). In 243 AHL career games with Portland and Rochester, Whitmore has amassed 104 points (57+47). The Rochester, NY native played four seasons at Bowling Green University where he picked up 102 points (70+32). His 70 career goals ranked him in the top 20 in BGSU all-time goal scoring list. Whitmore scored his first professional goal against the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) on April 4, 2008 as a member of the Rochester Americans.

Stuart (7/8/1982, 6’2”, 200 lbs) appeared in three games with the Sabres last season, collecting two penalty minutes. In 72 games with Portland (AHL) last season, Stuart picked up 44 points (16+28). In his 423 AHL appearances, Stuart has collected 84 goals and 88 assists (172 points). In 54 NHL games with Chicago, Atlanta and Buffalo, Stuart has 13 points (8+5). The Rochester, Minn. native was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fifth round (135th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Sabres Sign Agreement with Rochester Americans AHL Club

BUFFALO, NY (June 24, 2011) – The Buffalo Sabres today announced they have signed a purchase agreement with the Rochester Americans hockey club. The AHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the transaction earlier today. The Sabres also announced their affiliation agreement with the Portland Pirates has ended.

The Buffalo Sabres will have no further comment at this time. The Sabres expect to hold a press conference in Rochester next week to set forth their plans for the franchise.

Sabres Sign Zack Kassian To Entry Level Contract

BUFFALO, NY (November 1, 2010) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms with forward Zack Kassian on a three-year entry level contract. Kassian was Buffalo’s first-round selection (13th overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Now in his fourth year of junior hockey, the 19-year-old Kassian (1/24/1991, 6’3”, 226 lbs.) currently leads the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires in scoring with 20 points (7+13) through 11 games. Kassian, who missed the start of the OHL season after an extended stay at Sabres training camp, is among the league leaders in scoring and has already posted a pair of four-point games this season.

The Windsor, Ont.-native has 135 points (52+83) in 168 career OHL games with Windsor and Peterborough. Kassian was traded to Windsor last season, and played a key role in the team’s Memorial Cup championship run. He finished with 16 points (7+9) in 19 playoff games, and added another five points (2+3) during the Memorial Cup tournament. The hard-hitting winger has also amassed 365 PIM’s during his four years in junior.

Matt Ellis Staying In Buffalo

Buffalo - Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have re-signed unrestricted free agent forward Matt Ellis to a one-year contract.

Ellis (8/31/1981, 6’, 212 lbs.) spent last season in Buffalo where he set career highs in games played (72), points (13) and assists (10). Ellis, who turns 29 today, now has 33 points (13+20) in 187 career NHL games with Buffalo, Los Angeles and Detroit.

Sabres Sign Marc-Andre Gragnani

BUFFALO, NY (August 5, 2010) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani to a one-year contract.

Gragnani (3/11/1987, 6’2”, 201 lbs.) spent the 2009-10 season with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate in Portland, scoring 43 points (12+31) in 66 games. His 12 goals were third among AHL blueliners, and he was 11th in defense scoring. In addition, six of Gragnani’s 12 goals were scored on the power play. In three AHL seasons with Portland/Rochester, the 23-year-old has 146 points (35+111) in 220 games. He has also played in six NHL games with the Sabres during this time.

Gragnani was drafted by Buffalo in the third round (87th overall) of the 2005 Entry Draft.

Sabres/Bruins Trade

The Buffalo Sabres traded forward Daniel Paille to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday in exchange for Boston’s third-round selection in the 2010 Entry Draft and a conditional fourth-round selection in 2010.

Kaleta Accepts Sabres Qualifying Offer

BUFFALO, NY (July 15, 2009) –  Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today that forward Patrick Kaleta has accepted his one-year qualifying offer.

Kaleta, (6/8/1986, 5-11,195 lbs) collected nine points (4+5) and 89 penalty minutes in 51 games last season. Kaleta missed 27 games due to a neck injury last season. Along with setting career-highs in all major statistical categories, the forward also averaged a career-high 8:55 on-ice time per game.

Sabres Sign Travis Tuenbull

BUFFALO, NY (April 6, 2009) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed free agent forward Travis Turnbull to a two-year entry level contract. Turnbull, the son of former NHL’er Perry Turnbull, recently completed his senior season at the University of Michigan.

Turnbull will finish this season with the Portland Pirates on an AHL ATO, and his NHL contract will begin next season.

Turnbull (7/7/1986, 6’, 193 lbs.) posted career highs in points (28) and penalty minutes (74) this season, as Michigan advanced to the NCAA East Regionals. Turnbull never missed a game in his college career, and set the Michigan record for consecutive games played with 166. The native of Chesterfield, MO, finished with 90 points (40+50) and 241 PIMs in 166 career games with the Wolverines.
